Glasgow to Edinburgh train

Need a bit of help here! I'm travelling from Glasgow to Edinburgh next Friday to meet a friend but when I go onto National Rail Enquires it states that the Falkirk High station is closed due to weather damage. Won't reopen till 3rd September. It suggests I get the low level train from Glasgow Central which takes ages. However the train from Glasgow Queen st to Edinburgh is still showing on the NRE website and states the train takes 45 mins.
I'm confused and don't know whether to reschedule till after 3rd September. Anyone get this train and know if it goes through Falkirk High at the moment?

dunno about falkirk but theres the train that goes thru livingston north you get from queen street to edinburgh - it either comes from helensburgh or milgavie to queen street then onto edinburgh- takes abuot 1 hr

No trains are going through Falkirk at the moment due to a land slip at Polmont on Tuesday evening (according to my mother who lives there)...

Would you take the coach instead? My dad was planning to do the same journey on Wednesday last week, but after the storms on Tuesday night the train from Queen St wasn't running - he said the coach was very quiet and felt safe etc

Scbchl · 15/08/2020 21:12

Could get the bus?

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 15/08/2020 21:15

the train that goes through Livingston North etc takes about 90 mins between Glasgow and Edinburgh, so coach might be quicker than that

I once got on the wrong train going from Edinburgh to Glasgow and ended up at Central rather than Queen Street. It was a nice route and didn't take too much longer. I think Central to Edinburgh would be a fine option.

trumpisaflump · 15/08/2020 21:24

Thanks everyone. I think the train from central to Edinburgh usually only takes about 45 mins. I'm travelling into Glasgow by train too so probably don't want to travel for too much longer than another 45 mins. I'll check out how long the train from Queen street takes. Thanks again

We had a horrendous storm on tuesday night - google falkirk canal breach to see the extent, house struck by lightning on fire, flash floods. I'd be surprised if the pine is back running for 3rd September to be honest

trumpisaflump · 15/08/2020 21:42

Really @nwatty? That's awful.

If your in Lanarkshire, there's an express train from Motherwell I think.

nwatty · 15/08/2020 21:57

Just to clarify it wasnt my house. Thunder and lightning started at 10pm and finished at 5am!! Was a long, horrible night but alot of people in the area came off worse than we did. www.falkirkherald.co.uk/news/brightons-butchers-ablaze-lightning-strikes-and-floods-hit-falkirk-area-2939683

FluffytheGoldfish · 15/08/2020 22:43

There is also low level train that goes from Queen Street to Edinburgh that is still running. It takes longer than the upper level train but could suit you.

Invisimamma · 16/08/2020 21:01

There's rail replacement Falkirk to Linlithgow leg of the journey, due to a landslip washing the track away at Polmont.

You'd need to get the train to falkirk grahamston, replacement bus to Linlithgow and then another train onto Edinburgh from there.

JamMakingWannaBe · 16/08/2020 21:52

I'd be booking the MegaBus. Do it quickly before seats run out.

poppet31 · 16/08/2020 22:53

The train from central takes about an hour and a half. Much quicker on the bus.

trumpisaflump · 17/08/2020 13:30

Thanks again everyone. I've put it off until Sept.
