I am looking for a puppy, a 'doodle' or 'poo' kind. This is not a lockdown thing but something we have been thinking about for over a year. We have the space, kids are 10 and 12 and the time is right. I am worried about the whole puppy farm business and wonder if anyone can recommend a breeder. I am based in Edinburgh - so posting this in Scotsnet.

Hopefully not against the rules!

There are 2 good pages on facebook to ask doodle owners. Labradoodles of Scotland and labradoodles Scotland.

I have two labradoodles. I recommend Tora Australian Labradoodles near Loch Lomond.

Australian labradoodles are slightly different to normal labradoodles IMO they are the perfect dog. My boy does not shed, his coat is so soft and he is very cuddly. He is also very placid yet friendly.

Thank you both. I will join those Facebook groups, that's helpful.

I have come across Tora's on my research and will definitely contact them. Your boy is just gorgeous!

I've got a F1 labradoodle (she's almost 4) and she's amazing, such a great nature and was a joy to train, not the nightmare I'd imagined.
As she's a F1 it's been pot luck as to how her coat would turn out - she's got short hair, but wavy in places but casts as much as a lab, which is a lot!! The breeder did warn us about this but it's a small price to pay. Good thing is mud generally just shakes off her so she's very low maintenance.
Best thing we ever did, she's an absolute treasure.

Lomond Hills Australian Labradoodles.

I have a lovely doodle from Lomond Hills Labradoodles but I do not recommend them after some behavioural issues. Various vets, trainers, behaviourists have all been shocked at the young age my puppy was neutered i.e. before 8 weeks.
I was ignorant of the implications this would cause and I regret not researching this more carefully at the time.

Hi doodlemum,
We are also looking at Lomond Hills and Tora’s LD. They both encourage neuter/spay before they go home at 10 weeks. I’m not sure how I feel about this as I know other breeders recommend waiting till 6-12 months…
Would love any advice you have, thanks !

Tora’s offer a neuter/spay contract which you have to request. You have to get them done before a year, I think.

We have a five month old Tora pup (our second one as we lost our first one recently at age 10). I would really recommend this breeder.

My groomer isn't too impressed with LH. She has a 'groomer chat' with local groomers and they agree that the puppies aren't always chosen for sound temperament and some seem excessively nervous to the extent that some need to be medicated before a groom.

All the professionals I know who have heard about puppies being neutered before they reach puberty were horrified. I think it’s ok to have a contract to neuter before 1 year but not before they pass through teenage phase.
