Anyone travelled on Scotrail recently?

Hi there,

I am meant to be going up to Aviemore in a couple of days by train but I'm getting quite worried about what the trains are going to be like in terms of physical distancing. Scotrail aren't allowing you to reserve a seat in advance, so I have no idea how many people will be on the train and if they'll be really crowded. I'm clinically vulnerable and I know Covid rates are low at the moment, but I really don't want to find myself in a situation where I'm hemmed in tightly in a hot train carriage, especially as I've heard lots of people take their masks off on the train. Has anyone travelled from Edinburgh to Aviemore recently who can tell me what it will be like?

Thanks

dd travelled on the train from Glasgow to Aberdeen mid June. Everyone wearing a mask and train not very busy.

We were on a scotrail train from Fife to Inverness, which would be the same train you're getting, last week. Everyone I saw wore a mask. There were 6 in our carriage including the 2 of us. Everyone was mindful of each others space. I was anxious about using the train, but both parts of the return journey were absolutely fine.

I was on a train last week. Everyone wore masks and it wasn’t very busy at all.

I was also worried before we went as I didn’t know if I had to book in advance and book a seat but we just bought tickets in the day and sat where we wanted.

Meant to say there is no trolley service so take your own food and drinks if you’ll need them.

My father in law got caught out with that last week travelling up to Scotland from London. He didn’t know that there was no trolley/buffet car and spent 6 hours without so much as a drink of water.

Train travel is weird. There are no... people. No announcements. No ticket inspector. No food trolley. No other passengers.

It's discombobulating. The station facilities are mostly closed too. Low risk of infection, high risk of thinking oh ffs.

What are the ticket machines/barriers like? Do they clean them regularly (would be taking hand sanitizer anyway obviously)

Just sent my niece off from Elgin to Inverness - train looked deserted, maybe 2 people per carriage, all wearing masks.

Our local train station doesn't have a barrier. Inverness station, on the way back though, had the barrier closed until those arriving had got off the train, then the barriers were enabled to let us through. There was no ticket checking onboard as normal. It was all really well organised and stress-free, thankfully.

My train everyday in and out of Glasgow is getting busier. I still manage to social distance but sometimes Iove if people sit too close to me. There are announcements at the station about the trains arriving and telling people to wear masks etc. Barriers which you put your ticket through at Central Station.
