My teens are now fully nocturnal and likely to suffer from jet lag in a few weeks.

My DD started back at work at her wee PT job. I suggested staggering her return to the world of light over several nights. She went cold turkey, was horrendously tired for one shift and was fine the next day.

My envy is huge!

Apart from my fortnight holiday, I've been working (at home) all the way through. I start work at 7.30am. I'm not getting to sleep most days until around 3am. Adult teens are still awake then but sleep until lunch - lightweights! :o

I don't think anything in Uni is starting until mid September so they have plenty of time. For school start I think i'd bank on shifting back half an hour a day so depends how many hours you need to shift.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 22/07/2020 00:24

Teens will be fine. They're back on a Wednesday so only three days to go through, I'll make sure mine go to bed at a normal time on the Mon/Tue the night before but I'm sure they'll bounce back. They seem to be able to deal with hangovers, etc (not mine, young people I know from work) so I'm sure they'll cope with a bit of normal life.

I’m sure they'll cope with a bit of normal life.

Grin at least the hangover would have a party before it!

The trauma of school skirt shopping will be enough for next week then!

Dd got a job in a care home working 13 hour shifts so she's fine. Ds can get up when I force him. Like yesterday up at 9am. Not sure how college timetabling will be.

I'm going to be the problem. I wake up with dh and fall back asleep. I have 2 weeks and 5 days before I start my new job and I'm doing 2 long days compared to my 8.30-3.30 cushty number prior to lockdown.

Lidlfix · 22/07/2020 08:38

My last school skirt shopping ever was a strangely pain free Quiz on line session yesterday. DD knew exactly what style and size as she's pretty much been wearing the same version since S3.

I was almost nostalgic for the epic fallouts. Almost.

StrawberryScentedThings · 22/07/2020 08:50

How long is the Quiz one? I don’t mind short-ish.

The last link she sent me was a black jersey wrap around skirt which tied in a bow Hmm

According to the website 42cm. I guess it depends on height and how how they wear the waist. It washes well and dries quickly assuming I'll be following daily washing at 60 protocols . It's a fairly robust fabric. Seems to be go to skirt for many , I certainly see lots of my pupils wearing it or the skater skirt.

TW2013 · 22/07/2020 09:00

Still waiting for it to hit. 4 months off school and she still bounces down the stairs in a cheery way at 8am announcing that she has finished three of her lessons already and just waiting for the other two to be uploaded. Only just into holidays here but still bouncing. Maybe I should offer her up for a paper round to curb her morning enthusiasm! I tend to think that a few days is sufficient, a week at most based on jetlag the best thing to do is try to rip off like a plaster. One short night sleep followed by a day of activity is probably better than trying to edge it an hour or two at a time.

StrawberryScentedThings · 22/07/2020 09:05

The skater one looks lovely. You may have saved the day here!

my dd also likes a skater skirt. Think i got them from sainsbury's last year. I've got the trauma of school trousers for ds as last years are either too short or too big at the waist as he had sprouted and slimmed down. He has gone from plus fit to slim fit and I'm having a nightmare finding the right size in stock, even online.

Ds has just got up, I need to wake dd around lunchtime!

StrawberryScentedThings · 22/07/2020 11:17

Mine may rise before noon. It will be then another 3 hours before they start to get ready Grin

The cat has woken dd so I dont have to Grin

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 22/07/2020 12:15

Thanks for the reminder, last year's trousers do actually fit but I need to order more pairs if they're to be washed daily. Have any of your schools actually said anything concrete about uniform/non-uniform?

dementedpixie · 22/07/2020 12:31

Before school broke up ours said no blazers or ties but still trousers /skirts/shirts (secondary school). Are they supposed to update at the end of the month?

StrawberryScentedThings · 22/07/2020 13:03

Is that going to be a council or govt policy do you think? Or up to individual schools?

OP posts:
Lidlfix · 22/07/2020 13:09

Seems individual schools as where I teach is a different school but same local authority as my DD attends have different policies. In normal times they are pretty similar. Totally confusing!

AAT65 · 22/07/2020 17:17

We haven't had any guidance since JS dropped his bombshell on 23/6. Before that the plan was uniform not compulsory (primary school) just practical, waterproof jacket etc for lots of out door stuff. This wasn't communicated to parents although we as teachers had seen the "top secret" plan. I teach 5/6 year olds and my concern is we need to give clear guidance to parents NOW.
Any dress down day you get the cherubs who normally come in velcro shoes sporting lace up trainers with laces which come out every 10 minutes. Who has to redo those laces breaking social distancing (and all hygiene rules when the laces have trailed through pee on the floor in the boys toilets). Then there are all the jackets the children can't zip. If we were giving out age specific information parents could and should make sure their children are independently able to do these tasks (in so far as they can - of course I'll help those who really can't).

britINscotland · 22/07/2020 22:58

no preparation other than an early night the night before really. Still not got a finalised timetable, we just know that its phased the first week.

1moremum · 22/07/2020 23:10

DH and I decided to set the alarm back to normal beginning next Monday. We had only pushed it forward an hour back in March, with an aim of 'maintaining normalcy', but as time has gone on, first we were hitting snooze, then hitting it a couple times, and now just shutting it off the first time. nobody is up and functioning before 10 am.
