Reopening breakfast club / afterschool club

Has anyone's Primary School indicated that breakfast club / afterschool club will also start back in August - or mentioned it at all?

Ours here in Edinburgh are saying they are waiting for government guidance.

Which is frustrating as my ASC charges full fees till Xmas if you cancel from July onwards.

I think I will just cancel & hope I can get a place elsewhere if I can't WFH in the autumn. There are usually long waiting lists.

But equally £800/month is a lot of money to waste.

Still waiting on government advice in Dundee. I'm hopeful though as nurseries can open to non key workers from July 15.

Waiting on official guidance in terms of how to operate but we're reopening on 20th July (I run one) for holidays

@statistically challenged - do you know if many in the sector are opening in the holidays? I was asked to say if I was interested in the holiday club our after school club are running but haven't heard anything further. DD is desperate to go back and would love it. I'd also love it - I'm not finding it easy to get much work done when she is around.

It's hard to tell but I think it will be limited - it looks like most who are based in schools won't be open for the holidays, and the unregistered sports camp type likewise seem not to be running. We're an off site asc and it's think it's likely to mostly be companies like us who open.

Ours is seperate to the school, and hoping to operate as normal now from August. If schools are back part time, it may be key workers only (and a high chance they will fold).

JamMakingWannaBe · 30/06/2020 22:52

I've also read the schools won't be serving a hot cooked lunch (catering staff can't SD in the school kitchen) so it'll be a sandwich for the foreseeable.

That'll be lovely in the depths of winter!

I know someone who works in after school club and holiday club for the council and they are open only for key workers kids in the holidays (they’ve been working in the hubs anyway up to now) . They have no idea what’s happening after the holidays but schools don’t know much about how they are working yet either. Apparently the next guidance for schools won’t be out until 30th July 😬

Invisimamma · 02/07/2020 15:02

Ours is a private company but operates from the school building. At the moment they have been told that they can't open in August as the council is not permitting external lets in school buildings, also that the children won't be allowed to mix between years/bubble groups so can't be together in ASC. This may change by August.

The school have also converted their room back into a classroom for social distancing purposes. Although this is easily changed back.

I can't return to work without wraparound care 😔 with commute it's just not feasible.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/07/2020 16:08

This sort of thing is just awful invisimamma. That'll be all their staff made redundant, probably business going under, and dozens of working parents- mostly mums let's face it - forced out of work.

These sort of decisions have long term consequences

applesandpears33 · 02/07/2020 19:14

We rely on the after school club for childcare too. If it doesn't reopen we could have a problem on our hands.

Notjustamum10 · 03/07/2020 11:49

Our school (in Glasgow) has said they'll open breakfast club, but it will be pre-booked with limited numbers rather than the drop-in arrangement previously used. However the after school club is privately run, and they don't know yet if the school has space for them to operate - it may depend on social distancing / full time vs blended learning return. If they're not able to return, there will be at least 60 local families who'll find it difficult to return to work (including us!) in one school alone, as well as the club staff who may not have work to go back to. I believe there should be much more effort at local government level to ensure that wraparound care is provided - the impact on the working parents and the local economy is immense.
