So when are we going back to school?

I was under the impression that NS had announced that all schools in Scotland would start back on August 11th. I have had surveys from my local authority asking when we would like the week's holiday in lieu and if we want 1 or 2 in-service days before we start back in August.

Last night a colleague posted a piece showing all the start dates from the different authorities - some were 10th August, !1th, 12th up to the 18th and 19th.

I am totally confused Confused

I've emailed my constituency MSP as well. Probably worth targeting the regionals too, especially for cities like Edinburgh.

But wait 3 weeks.

ok I'm confused. Are grandparents now allowed to help or not?

applesandpears33 · 18/06/2020 12:58

Yes, unless they are shielding.

Oh FFS

I just want to go back to school in August, all 300 pupils, all staff, and do my bloody job. I want my dc to start S1 and have the experience he should have. I've never been away from school for such a long time apart from my mat leaves, and even then I popped in and out of school.

If nothing else, this shitshow has reinforced how much I love my job.

Sorry, tired and emotional today. Bettet get a grip before I start ringing around some tired and emotional P7's this afternoon.

shops can reopen end of June

what about childcare for the workers though?

I'm glad face masks in shops isn't mandatory (yet). I won't like wearing one (disabled and its bad enough on public transport) and I can only imagine the hassle trying to enforce it.

But it’s not just the border to England. Ferries to Ireland, NI and Ijmuiden. Flights to all sorts of places. You can’t just shut your borders!

SudokuBook · 18/06/2020 16:07

It’s totally shit, @Dinosauratemydaffodils.

nextslideplease · 18/06/2020 16:28

okay the head of education at our council has emailed all parents and I'm still fucking confused!

she says 2 full days and 1 half day every second week but then goes on to say that schools will be creating their own timetables and it will be "As a minimum, senior phase pupils in S4, 5 and 6 will attend school two days every week with students in S1, 2 and 3 attending one day each week."

So I don't know if its 2.5 days a week, or 1 day per week, or what.

Anyone interpret the above better than I have?

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/06/2020 16:38

My friends DC (in Glasgow) have been told S1 and S2 in for 2.5 hours each morning and s3 and 4 in for 2.5 hours every afternoon - no idea what's happening with s5 and s6 as friend doesn't have DC in those years.

nextslideplease · 18/06/2020 16:51

I emailed back the head of education, who responded promptly to say the individual timetable will come through next week.

So last day of term then, when we can't complain about it!

OhioOhioOhio · 18/06/2020 17:00

So in 3 weeks caravan sites etc will be open?

StoorieHoose · 18/06/2020 17:00

I spoke to the Jannie at my local primary school and he doesn't know if he is coming or going. Half the school tables and chairs are in the dining hall along with bookcases, carpets, soft toys. I can see the two in service days at start of term a mad rush for all the teachers to get their classrooms changed back to normal. I really feel for teachers at the moment the uncertainty must be awful

OldLace · 18/06/2020 17:03

@nextslideplease - that'd be about right!

FelicityPike · 18/06/2020 17:11

We’ve just had a “letter” from East Ayrshire.
Primary in 2 days a week.
Secondary in 1 day a week until end of August then 2 days.
Schools to set their own pattern.

LizzieMacQueen · 18/06/2020 17:39

Northern Ireland are relaxing the 2m to 1m for school settings.

Didn't think I'd be looking to NI for being the progressing part of the UK!

SamSeabornforPresident · 18/06/2020 18:06

1 day a week is dreadful. Glasgow have 5 half days for all pupils. Which is still rubbish but at least we see them every day.

spottedelk · 18/06/2020 18:12

I don't think 2.5 hours a day makes sense.More to-ing and fro-ing in the street, public transport use, cleaning between children.

SockYarn · 18/06/2020 18:48

Just saw that West Dunbartonshire are offering 1 day in school for S1-S3 and 2 days for S4-S6.

Appalling.

So glad that the campaign get them all back in full time is gathering pace.

RoseDog · 18/06/2020 18:58

We are 2.5 days a week surnames A-K are Monday till Wednesday lunchtime and surnames L-Z are wed lunch till Friday!

salemcat · 18/06/2020 19:08

Primary 2 days per week here, but you have no choice in the days & no way to change them. 3 days for children with 2 key worker parents/vulnerable children.

nextslideplease · 18/06/2020 19:09

@SockYarn

My DD is S2 at WDC

I just saw more details on their FB page so I now know its only 1 day pw.

I am absolutely furious

What exactly are they going to teach in that 1 day? PE? RE? PHSE? or are they going to concentrate on maths and english? Are they going to do different subjects each week? Is it going to be actual teaching or just revising?

If you look at WDC facebook page, there is so much anger.

DH is now coming around to the idea of getting a tutor for a few subjects, unless things change by August, but if we wait til then, will there BE any tutors???

StoorieHoose · 18/06/2020 19:16

I bet they stick to their timetable just like if they were at school so will get at least one English one maths and then whatever other subjects they had that day

applesandpears33 · 18/06/2020 19:23

I would look for tutors now. I am in a similar position to you where my son is only offered one day of face to face education a week and I know a lot of people are looking for tutors and the best ones are likely to get snapped up.
