Can my cleaner return?

Sorry very middle class question!

It’s not totally clear from the briefing today. Can my cleaner return from when lockdown is lifted next Thursday?

She has some health conditions but isn’t shielding. We’ve been paying her the whole time which I don’t begrudge at all during lockdown. However I’d quite like her back now we’re moving out of lockdown.

What are others doing?

No she cant

bettertimesarecomingnow · 21/05/2020 20:57

You can have an English cleaner! Don't know what the rule is in Scotland tho.

If people can go back to work if it can't be done from home (ie she can't clean your house from hers) then surely this would apply?

As long as you don't get to close to her?

Common sense approach?

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 21/05/2020 21:00

No, you are going to have to put those plates in the dishwasher yourself - or buy some new ones.

DannyDonut · 21/05/2020 21:27

Some snarky responses there OP, just ignore!

If you were asking the question as a cleaner who needed to go back to work I’m sure you’d get different responses.

But reading the route map it would seem not until phase 2:
Working or running a business: In Phase 2, remote working should remain the default position for those who can. Indoor non-office- based workplaces can resume, once relevant guidance has been agreed ...

Not yet in Scotland, no.

Feelingdeprived · 21/05/2020 21:53

Ach ok, thanks. Guess I’ll need to keep polishing my diamond shoes myself for a bit longer. 😂

According to half of social media OP, your house should be like a shiny new pin with all the extra time you have on your hands during lockdown, plus your freezer will be full with all the extra cooking and baking.

Reality is that a lot of folk are still working full time, in or out the home and if you add in queuing for food, more cooking from scratch due to lack of what you went to buy, maybe homeschooling or looking after young DC at the same time, a lot of folk don't have extra time, just something else to feel inadequate or guilty about. Appreciate that those working have a lot to be thankful for in terms of less worry about where the next meal is coming from and general security but it's far from rosy.

I do hope you are able to get you cleaner back soon OP. We are too messy to get a cleaner much as I'd love a nice tidy sparkly house :)

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/05/2020 00:06

Plus I'm not middle class and I don't have diamond shoes so I'm not good enough to have a cleaner Sad Grin

copperoliver · 22/05/2020 00:07

I say she can return as it was said if you cannot work from home go to work. X

Feelingdeprived · 22/05/2020 01:22

Maybe I should have stated in the OP that I’m not looking for opinions just facts.

For the record, although I don’t know why I’m justifying myself, I’m still working plus have 3 children at home. Of course I realise that I’m very fortunate to have a cleaner. Not apologising for it though.

Thanks those that replied helpfully.Smile

Sorry I should clarify- I’m not looking for opinions on my having a cleaner.

I am leaving it up to my cleaner to decide
We are paying her in any case.

Hoping she will want to come back soon

thedevilinablackdress · 22/05/2020 09:13

Based on the route map issued yesterday by the Scottish Government (see page 42) I'd say not till phase 2 at least. Which will be another 4 weeks at the earliest.

thethoughtfox · 22/05/2020 09:24

Ours have checked with their GP about safety. They are doing one client a day just now, wearing full boiler suits and masks, disinfecting their materials before and after. We have to be out of the house or in a different room. We are going to hole up in one room and give them space.

SockYarn · 23/05/2020 09:38

@Feelingdeprived I had exactly the same question - sorry you've been given a hard time.

My cleaner stopped coming the week the schools closed. I have been in contact with her by text and she's itching to come back to work. I have told her that I want her back the second she is allowed to do so. She brings her 8 year old DD with her during holiday times and she usually plays Fortnite on the Xbox with my youngest, so I've told her that I'll make sure contact is limited and we social distance as much as we can.

The reason why we got her in the first place is that I'm crap at cleaning, I hate doing it, find it mind-numbingly dull and would rather be doing anything else. I also work for myself and can earn more per hourly rate than we pay the cleaner - so financially, i'm better off working and paying her to take care of the cleaning.

She's been with us about 6 years and I really miss her.

Merename · 23/05/2020 15:52

@Feelingdeprived, my cleaner has said she will come back after Thursday, and has detailed all the hygiene steps she will take. I haven’t checked the guidelines In specific detail to be honest but I’m assuming she has! I’d be happy to argue for it, both keyworkers trying to work in and out of home with young kids. Can’t wait.

^ this. especially this early in lock down being lifted and she has health concerns.

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/05/2020 16:31

I'm not sure what ti di even when she can come back.
Im shielding as I have a chronic illness, which is why I have her in the first place, I pay her from my PIP money.
I'd love her back, but Im guessing its not safe, though I wonder if I could sit in my car for an hour?

Pipandmum · 27/05/2020 16:35

My cleaner in England started back last week. And she's never had to put a plate in the dishwasher...

Marpan · 27/05/2020 16:57

You can have a cleaner in Scotland actually.

I haven’t had mine back though cause I’m paranoid.

people are so snide because someone has a cleaner. Jealous much.

Anyway the Scottish gov quietly released a few weeks back cleaners and childminders nannies etc were fine!

Merename · 27/05/2020 17:05

Sorry off topic, but do folk know the detail in the changes tomorrow, like how many people you should meet at a time, are we allowed to travel? The advice seems quite general and maybe that’s deliberate, but I’d expected more detail this week.
