Outdoor activities and days out for families

Thinking a thread listing outdoor activities (will be wanting to avoid indoor places with lots of people soon) and days out for families in Scotland would be nice. I don't know about anyone else but I'm wondering how I will keep DC entertained, healthy and engaged when the schools and nurseries close. I can take 16 weeks parental leave and will likely do childcare for close family and there's only so many trips to the local park we can make.
So on this thread comment;

Place you're recommending
Age range that it suits
Cost (if any)
Accessible by public transport or need a car

I didn't mention the C word so do not get this thread moved!!

I'll start. I live near Glasgow.

Balloch.
Any age
Free if you want it to be
There's a train station

Lovely day out if it's dry. Beach area, open space, nice for a picnic.

We will be staying home if schools close so I will have to think of outdoor things we can do in the garden and perhaps we can walk and jogg in the local area. We have alot of green space around here.

Tentsmuir beach, north of St Andrews. Cost £? There's a small fee to enter, takes longer to drive there than you might imagine. Take a picnic as I don't think there's any refreshments there.

Queen Elizabeth Forest parks are another option. Small fee to park/enter but some good walks, varying lengths, good for dogs and bikes.

Good idea for a thread OP

Troon beach
Any age
Free
Nearby train station

Lovely beach to visit with a picnic and bucket & spade.

I've bought a rucksack picnic / cooler bag and a foldaway blanket as I predict lots of days outdoors away from crowds.

I hadn't heard of Queen elizabeth forest park, thank you!

There's also Ayr beach, again a nearby train station.

@ManyShades we have woods near us which I think we'll visit a lot Smile

Ooh kelvin grove park is great but tends to be crowded in the summer
