Also moving to Perth... schools?

Hello,
I posted before to ask about whether Crieff or Perth would suit us best and got some great advice (thank you!). We're pretty sure it'll be Perth, but are still keeping options open for Crieff and Auchterarder.

However, my SIL has basically just said we'd be really stupid to consider anywhere in Perth which feeds into any school except Bertha Park. She knows more about living round here than I do but... really?? We have two years more of primary for dd1, and were looking at Scone, craigie, moncrieff, kinnoul. I will, of course, look through all the published school info again, but know that is not the full picture. Any thoughts would be really appreciated. I feel quite deflated.

Bertha Park is sparkly and new
Doesn't mean anything.

Schools are all much the same although Perth High is having a bit of a difficult time.

My view is St Johns Academy is the best. They have a wider catchment too

Scone feeds into The Academy. That would be a good move (I used to live there and had one DC there)
Craig is is lovely to live in Smile

Bertha park has literally just opened but they seem to be recruiting fairly aggressively in terms of picking off the good teachers from other schools in the area.

Remember as well OP that you won't get comparable info on schools as Bertha only has two years at the moment, S1 and S2 so no means of comparing attainment

The school is running on half staff and is not without its difficulties.

It's not a school I would choose

And Craigie is a lovely place to liveSmile

Thanks both. It's really hard to know with things like this, so much happier hearing from people with direct experience! I think the house of my dreams has just listed on Dundee Road; doubt we'll be sold in time to offer but going to hope something similar appears in summer!

I thought you wanted to live in a decent sized town, so you wouldn't be a taxi service for the DCs? So why Scone?

Goldrill · 22/02/2020 18:58

Scone close enough for me to cope! Also DH can bike to office and me to my hobby.
(And so will girls at earliest opportunity!)

Bertha Park have recruited lots of good staff since they opened and has been an attractive prospect for staff to go to a new school with great resources. There have been teething problems though and they are dealing with difficulties of only having 2 year groups and no senior pupils to set standards across the school. They have lost staff already which is concerning. I have no doubt however that things will stabilise over the next few years. I think the Perth schools go through cycles in terms of which is viewed as the ‘best school’. Perth High is due to get a new building in the next few years which will be a positive move for them. Their recent inspection wasn’t great neither was Perth Grammar’s inspection - look up HMIE reports online. However I know pupils at each school who have been successful so not always a true picture. The Academy is getting good reports at the moment and St John’s which is the catholic school gets good reports.

Sorry to hijack but does anyone know much about the primary schools in Perth and which ones have the best reputations?
