Advice on areas in Glasgow?

Hey! We are currently in Mount Florida but looking to move further out of Glasgow to look for a family home... can anyone reccommend some good areas??

Ideally we want:

  • good schools
  • not too pricey (can't afford Giffnock/Newton Mearns etc)
  • some local cafes/restaurants
  • community feel rather than just a development in the middle of no where

Any help would be really appreciated! We're considering Stewarton and outside East Kilbride (stewartfield/lindsayfield) - any opinions on these? Any other areas to avoid/look at? Any reccommendations in the North?

Thanks!

Neilston? Don't live there but have a friend who used to.
Strathblane area?

What about Renfrewshire -Bridge of Weir and Lochwinnoch are nice with plenty of cafes and restaurants and the cycle path is excellent. Kilmalcolm is great but a bit further from Glasgow.

There are some good value houses in Stamperland or maybe Busby or Eaglesham which could fit your bill.

Maybe Burnside?

Agree that Lindsayfield/Stewartfield has some good properties & facilities.

Lenzie/ Kirkintilloch in the North. Good schools and great transport links (10 mins on train to Queen street, 50 mins to Edinburgh) Not as pricey as other side of East Dunbartonshire (Bearsden/ Milngavie) . There are a few local restaurants/ pubs .

How about Busby? Cheaper than NM, Giffnock, Clarkston etc but in catchment for Williamwood, the primary school is good too, nice community feel, there are some local pubs, very close to Clarkston for the shops, cafes and restaurants, doctor's, dentist, vet etc good connections to the city centre ( train station, bus 6 )

Castlemilk is not an area I would recommend.

I know quite a few people who lived in Burnside and almost all of them either moved to East Ren or sent their kids to private secondary. i wouldn't move there if you're wanting good secondary schools.

East Kilbride has some good secondary schools, I know lots of people with kids who've done very well at St Andrew's and St Bride's.

I'd also echo others in saying Busby. Good primary and secondary and bit more reasonable than Giffnock for house prices.

Bishopbriggs has a really good secondary school and a nice area
