Did anyone catch this two parter? I think it was on BBC Scotland but saw it on iPlayer. Really interesting access into the High Court showing the judge, witnesses and the cross examination, as well as talking to the witnesses about what they saw.

Loved the facial expressions from the judge and defence advocate when Cairney was on the stand. No voice over required to convey exactly what they were thinking.

Oh I missed this. Will try to look it up in the next day or so x

I've got the second part recording at the moment (BBC2). I'll watch both parts in the next day or so. But I'll have to be in the right frame of mind for it when I do. This was such an awful case, and Margaret didn't seem to have anyone looking out for her.

That poor poor girl, totally let down by everyone

There's a thread on tellyaddicts too.

I had posted that I loved the way Ian McSporran salt with the man when he was on the stand

And yes, the defence QC rolling his eyes and looking skywards said it all

And I loved the Support for learning teacher

Horrible horrible people

IHaveBrilloHair · 09/01/2020 22:02

I've just finished it.
What evil people.

WaxOnFeckOff · 09/01/2020 22:30

I've just watched it on iplayer.

So sad, she would be only 19 if she was killed around the time they expected. Just the age DS1 is now, life has barely begun really and despite her difficulties, there were so many who thought she very much had a life worth living and something to bring to the world.

My impression is that it was very much on Cairney but obviously Jones complicit. You can only hope that at some point - probably when Cairney dies - she'll actually tell people what happened.

IHaveBrilloHair · 09/01/2020 22:40

Agree, it definitely seemed to be more him.
It made me feel sick watching him.

PineappleDanish · 10/01/2020 07:18

I agree that it appeared to be all about him, she appeared terrified of him. I'm also not convinced that they set out to murder, more that something happened and then they covered it up.

Interesting case as it was so circumstantial - no body, no DNA, no physical evidence at all. Just the absence of evidence that she was alive and well. And evidence from the friend saying she'd never heard them talk about Margaret, and the GP, then the outlandish claims about her being a gangmaster.

I hope the court system does more of these documentaries because it's really interesting to see what goes on inside the courtroom.

I found her classmates observations of the photos quite interesting. Saying he had turned her into a version of himself.

The claims that she was a gang master. Yet her teacher said there was no way she could live an independent life. But that her dad was her world. He would probably be devastated that he left people he trusted with his previous daughter and they cannot explain coherently what happened to her.

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 11/01/2020 19:20

Watched this today and found it so sad. I had not heard of the crime until now.

Margaret was completely let down, so sad to think it was a benefits document that led to this investigation and that no one has missed her.
