Moving to the Cairngorms?

Having spent the last three years holidaying in Scotland, we fell in love with the Cairngorms on our trip this year. We also like the Scottish Borders immensely.

We're considering moving up in the next few years, having done a bit more exploring. Can anyone point us in the right direction for towns to look at in and around the Cairngorms area? Open to suggestions outside of the area too.

We're looking for somewhere we can buy a home with a bit of land and raise a family, ideally no more than an hour from a town with supermarkets and some amenities. We're tired of the terrible traffic and anti-social behaviour where we live and long for a more peaceful life. We are giving this a great deal of thought and won't be hasty, but would value your recommendations.

Thanks in advance

Hello I just came across this thread and, although it's over a year old, I thought it a good idea to contribute. Whilst Nethybridge, Boat of Garden, Kingussie and Carrbridge may be a good place to relocate to, I urge you if it's not too late, to avoid Grantown on Spey. Grantown had in recent years turned into the wild west. Gangs of teenagers roam the streets looking for, and causing lots of trouble, egging windows, abusing visitors, breaking public objects such as benches and even road signs, not only that but on evenngs and weekends the centre of town is a no go zon, with teenagers clearly high on drugs, falling about te place, shouting and swearing, trust me I've seen it all there. If you think that all too far check Facebook and even Google it. If you are worried about litter getting thrown where you are, then you don't want to see Grantown on a wild night, cans, crisp packets, parts of bus stops, all getting thrown about. Hope that paints a clear picture.

Hi!
I am hoping to move to Aviemore next year, in the first semester if all goes well.
It will be just myself and my 30 year old son, who was raised in Latin America and whose English is still a bit raw! We are presently living in my birth county of Devon and he is working as a cook in The Harvester in Paignton. I am retired (55) although I still do a bit of technical translation work for the insurance business. I also teach Spanish privately.
We would be looking to rent a two
bedroom flat or small house, but it would have to be pet-friendly as we have a very well-behaved 9 year old tiny chihuahua and an equally well-behaved free-roaming rabbit! I have verifiable references from the Housing Association that owns/administer the flat I presently live in (Stonewater). Does anyone have any suggestions/advice for me? TIA xxx
