Glasgow with a Teenager

What can I do with a teenager in Glasgow at a weekend? I live in Glasgow but my usual activities are probably far different from what he would want to do, and I desperately want him to think I'm cool Blush

Can anyone suggest things we can do? Thank you in advance!

(Reading this back, it's a little creepy - can I clarify he is a relative, nothing weird!)

He's 15, by the way

Do you know what he's into?
Velodrome, roller skating, cinema, museums, TriBeCa for a big American breakfast, climbing wall, trampolining?

prettybird · 14/09/2019 14:13

Beginners session at the velodrome is a good call - you could do it together Grin Think they have them on Saturday mornings - but they tend to be quite popular (or at least they used to be) so you'd need to book in advance.

PechaKucha · 14/09/2019 14:44

He is just coming out of the XBox in his room & not talking to adults phase so I don't really know what he is into! He usually visits places with his well off but older relatives who go to the fancy and cultural places, so I'm hoping to go cool/quirky/different (and cheap!)

I'm a member of the Glasgow gyms, but always assumed the velodrome part of the Emirates was for proper athletes! Those Saturday morning sessions look amazing, but I don't know if I'd be brave enough to join in Confused

I was going to take him to Stack n Still kaytee, do you think TriBeCa would be better? I've never been there.

Thank you guys, both very helpful

How about an escape room? Lots of cool ones in Glasgow. Or if he likes art a walk around the mural tour?

Q1w2e3 · 14/09/2019 14:50

And Loop & Scoop on Gt Western Rd!

PechaKucha · 14/09/2019 14:52

Loop and Scoop!

I was just drooling over their Lotus biscuit L&S the other day, that's a definite winner. We went to Black Vanilla last time (few years ago now) when dessert places weren't all over the place, and he loved his freakshake

The cycling coaches at the Emirates are really good - you don't need to go up the banking if you don't want to. It's actually a function of speed - as you go faster, the bike naturally takes you up. I've done a couple of beginner sessions (ds used to do a lot of cycling so I decided to give it a go myself, along with some of the other "cycling" mums)

The worst bit is slowing down as there are no brakes, so you just have to pedal slower (track bikes are what they call "fixies", ie the pedals are directly linked to the wheels, so while you turn the pedals, the wheels turn and vice versa - there is no such thing as free wheeling Shock)

kaytee87 · 14/09/2019 15:15

I haven't been to stack and still so couldn't comment, we love TriBeCa though.

An escape room is a good shout but you'd usually need a group (I think).

kaytee87 · 14/09/2019 15:17

Bowling and arcades too but the cost can mount up.

SimpleAndPlanned · 14/09/2019 18:36

What about the indoor ski slope? Maybe a snowboarding lesson?

Kinraddie · 15/09/2019 00:52

The Lighthouse is cool, great views of the city.

sundaylast · 15/09/2019 01:11

Stack and still is shit and a rip off! £40 it cost for 2 adults and 2 kids... with kids eat free! Granted I paid for one extra topping each for them but still! For f-Ing panckaes!!... can you tell I'm still a bit annoyed at this? 😳

ssd · 15/09/2019 02:11

Pesano for pizza

LizzieMacQueen · 15/09/2019 11:34

Have a look at BBC and see if they have any shows coming up that need a live studio audience. That could be fun.

PechaKucha · 21/09/2019 17:38

He does not want to do anything!!

We've gone to a couple of shops he wanted to go to which of course were all miles from each other and now we're home and he's tired.

Teenagers!

Could you get a deliveroo?

PechaKucha · 21/09/2019 19:54

He's not interested at all, we picked up some stuff for supper in Lidl because that's all he wanted. I guess if he's happy, I'm happy, I was just looking forward to treating him for a change.

Our Deliveroo options are pretty rubbish because we're out of town a bit - but I've spotted a Mexican place I've never seen before, so I'll be going for one of them once I'm on my own again, thanks Timeandtune!
