S4 - how much homework and self study?

I have a DD in S4 who doesn't appear to have had any homework yet in S4, and isn't doing any self study.

It all seems a bit laid-back. Her school achieves good results so I assume they know what they are doing.

How much homework do your S4 DC get, and if they don't get homework, are they doing self study?

My experience is that DD has had very very little homework throughout secondary. In S4 she is starting to get some, but still not a lot. I don't help her with her schoolwork in any way. This is very different from the experience of the loads of parents we know on the continent and, to a lesser extent, in England. Apparently in France parents have to be very involved with schoolwork or the children sink under the load. Which I wouldn't want to see here.

My experience is that it varies wildly from school to school. There is no such thing as a national homework policy in Scotland and you can't really sanction pupils who don't complete it - boy do they know that GrinSo must of us reserve our energy for battles worth fighting. I think many kids just crack on with what they have as opening it up to their parents just invites another level on feedback.
