At work today a customer said I had a "right teuchter accent". I'm not entirely sure what that means, but guessing it's not a compliment?

It’s not a compliment, and it’s not an insult. Teuchter is someone from the countryside -well it is where I’m from, which is coastal

ssd · 18/08/2019 16:02

I'd say it's an accent from up north, like Perth upwards.
Not an insult.

Psuedosudocrem · 18/08/2019 16:05

I'm from the best spoken English in the country. Allegedly Grin

Teuchter is like country aberdonian. So that doesnt make sense!

Psuedosudocrem · 18/08/2019 16:12

No way is anyone mistaking me for any form of Aberdonian. Completely different accent.

Where’s that then? Smile I’m new to Scotland and nosey about accents.

Invisimamma · 18/08/2019 16:17

It means you sound like your from up north, like the Highlands or countryside.

TaighNamGastaOrt · 18/08/2019 16:18

I'm a heuchter teuchter! A person from the far north of Scotland!
Op, are you from the city of rubber bumpers? Right enough?
You may also be a teuchter. Sorry to break it to you!

Psuedosudocrem · 18/08/2019 16:20

Indeed I am from the home of rubber bumpers. You are right enough Grin

PullingMySocksUp · 18/08/2019 16:30

Had to google that, but now I know! Thanks. Smile

TortiousInterference · 18/08/2019 16:53

TBH teuchter means anyone north of Cumbernauld and south of East Kilbride to me. Neither insult nor compliment.

TaighNamGastaOrt · 18/08/2019 17:43

I'm part teuchter, part Doric, part English. Quite the little mongrel!
I speak posh for ease now!

readsalotgirl63 · 18/08/2019 19:21

I grew up in Glasgow and teuchter referred to someone from the highlands/islands however i now live near Aberdeen where it is used to refer to someone from the countryside rather than from the city itself.

I remember Radio Clyde used to play "The Teuchter Tune" just after the 1pm news - this was fiddle and accordion music.

OtraCosaMariposa · 19/08/2019 07:17

Teuchter is highlands and islands. Not Aberdonian/Doric.

Like that woman on Reporting Scotland who says scotLAND and does the weather. Anne someone.

AnneKipanki · 19/08/2019 07:54

Anne Lundon . She can roll her
R s too !

OtraCosaMariposa · 19/08/2019 08:07

She's got a great accent. I think she's a native Gaelic speaker.

Fantababy · 19/08/2019 09:50

I think Anne Lundon is from Lewis.
