Queen Elizabeth vs The RAH - Advice!

Name changed for this as its posted on behalf of my sister.

Im looking for a bit of advice/feedback on giving birth at the Queen Elizabeth in Glasgow versus Paisley's RAH. This will be her second child, the first was born while she lived down south. A straightforward labour last time so no unusual health concerns if that's relevant.

Spoke to the midwife who agreed that the QE will be busier, and said despite recent headlines infection control isn't something to be worried about. The RAH is quieter, which we're told means once in active labour should translate into more one-on-one attention but that the wait to be categorized as active labour and therefore get that attention could be longer.

Generally just looking for some experiences here of either- did you find it busy, did you feel attended by the staff, any overall thoughts? My sister has a good few months to go yet so she's been told to do her homework on both before deciding .

I'll link her to the thread so if you could help an excited Aunty out that would be lovely Grin

I had both mine in the RAH but my youngest is 10 so not exactly current! I had good experiences both times though.

Does she like pigeons? If so then the QE is her best choice

We moved from the QEUH four years ago after being in maternity assessment for 9 hours with bleeding. In that time, there were at least 4 women in labour in the waiting room, surrounded by all their bags. It looked miserable for them. We'd moved house anyway, and had originally planned to stick with the QUEH but that made my mind up and we switched to Forth Valley.

My sister gave birth at paisley last year. Is avoid at all costs. Treatment was awful, and the antenatal ward (which, to be fair, was the only bit I saw) was horrid. It was tiny, no security- we just walked straight in to the ward, and it was very tired.
The room ds was in had 4 beds in, and was smaller than the single room I had at amu.
She wasn't impressed, and is planning to have the next one at amu later this year.

I haven't given birth in either but I've had treatment and been admitted to both and I wouldn't touch RAH with a barge pole.
It's my closest A&E and I flatly refuse to go there.

On the other hand I’d much rather go there than QEUH! Swings and roundabouts.

Oh really, why?
Not being snippy, I'm genuinely interested.

Have experience of both, albeit RAH was several years ago now.

Just been in QE a few weeks ago. Yes it was busy and lots of failings as a campus (parking a shambles for example) but can’t fault the care received and the labour suites well equipped and spotless.

RAH was much the same years ago, but I would personally rather be at the city centre super hospital than out in Paisley if there were complications.

Where I would definitely avoid is the princess royal though. Old fashioned and busy and full of the worst patients.

RAH

I was with my friend through her induction and labour which was swiftly converted to emergency forceps delivery in theatre - I was there too. The midwife she had was exemplary. This was at QEUH. cannot comment on RAH having no experience there. I wouldn't hesitate to go to QEUH. But everyone's experience can be different, naturally.
