Looking at a move to the Highlands possibly around the Nairn area though are flexible so long as it's commutable to Inverness , Our 8 year old has ASD and currently has an EHCP in place with 25 hours 1-1 support in mainstream .
Having discovered Scotland has a completely different system and the EHCP can't transfer with him can anyone let me know what the SEN support is like in mainstream primary . He needs a 1-1 to take him out and work in small groups as he rarely copes with whole class tasks and won't engage which then results in a meltdown ! . I'm led to believe the version of the EHCP they have in Scotland is practically impossible to obtain so I'm beholden to what an individual school can offer ?
He has come so far in 3 years am terrified this move will totally disrupt his education and leave him floundering .

Unfortunately the picture in the Highlands is very unclear atm. The council have introduced massive cuts and many schools are operating with little to no PSA (TA) time.

My aunt is a PSA (TA) in the Nairn area and it is really bleak at the moment. I would try and talk to likely schools to see what they have, but it is a very difficult time.

Uh oh ! Thank you for the replies , I was afraid this might be the case and we may well have to rethink our plans . A great shame as NHS highlands are missing out on 2 experienced members of the medical team which they appear to be desperate to recruit but I can't risk DS. I did speak to a really lovely helpful lady from the highlands council but she was also of the opinion it would be up to the individual school to decide if they could meet his needs and he certainly wouldn't be getting anything near a full time 1-1 TA assigned to him . Very sad as my husband is highland born and wants to go home , in all other respects it's ideal and would I think give us a great life but education is the massive stumbling block .

We are moving to Glasgow from Cambridge with a similar son, and similar issues with the schools! I am considering home Ed...
