Hiya, would really love some help. I currently live in South Devon , my parents live in Torrance and we thinking of moving to be near them. They have actually offered to buy us a house so we can be near them. We are up for moving but I know nothing about the area apart from my parents views but they are in their 60s. We have a daughter who is 6 and I want her to fit in ok and be welcomed. I also worry about us feeling like outsiders and making new friends . Can anyone tell me what Torrance, Kilsyth, Lennoxtown/Milton of Campsie is like for newcomers ? Are these places cliquey? Any English families at all? Good schools , low crime , nice and friendly community feel with lots going on for children , or are these areas a no go? Any help would be highly appreciated, my parents say just move here and then you will see what's it's like but its a huge decision for us as we really love where we are now and been here a long time . Sorry it's a long post 😃 thank you x

I live close-ish to Torrance and know the area fairly well.

In my experience it's not cliquey at all. Very welcoming to newcomers, DH is English and has never had any issues. Torrance itself is very small but there's lots going on in Bishopbriggs/Milngavie. Crime isn't really an issue, just the usual car crime and housebreaking but it is a safe area generally. Kids from Torrance primary feed into Boclair secondary in Bearsden, the other areas you've mentioned I think go to Kilsyth.

If you don't drive and want to be in the area, Bishopbriggs and Bearsden/Milngavie might be better.

Lennie is nice too & on direct train line to Glasgow.

If I was being particularly snobby I would say that Milton of Campsie is nice, and avoid Kilsyth / Lennoxtown.
Old story goes that the police live in Milton of Campsie but spend their time working in Lennoxtown.

But that is very snobby. There is lots of new build estates in Lennoxtown that look lovely / are expensive, so perhaps the place has changed in the last 10yrs?
Bishopbriggs has superb schools and is on the train line to glasgow, as is Lenzie. You’d be about a ten minute drive to Torrance there. As PP said, these places have some good shops and lots of groups /swimming pools etc.
Milngavie and Bearsden are lovely, great schools but expensive.
I knew someone who grew up in Torrance who said that the kids on the village bus got hassle at Boclair for being ‘country bumpkins’, but again that was at least 15 years ago. Boclair is a good school.

Bearsden/Milngavie, Bishopbriggs, Lenzie if schools a priority.
Bishopbriggs closer to City Centre with good transport links. Bearsden/Milngavie closer to West End and Loch Lomond. Lenzie a bit further away from the City but on same train line as Bishopbriggs. Lots of young families.
You wouldn't feel out of place being English in Bearsden.
All close enough to Torrance if you don't want a small village location.
Glasgow and surrounding areas are compact. You can generally whizz across the City fairly quickly.

Hi,
Can you please tell me where you decided to move to?
We are looking around that area as a potential new place to live.
We are in NZ at the moment so it's all a bit hard from so far away. Good to get real life opinions of what its like, and where to avoid.. my kids are ages 6, 11 & 13, so we'll need a variety of school options
🙄
Thanks
