Looking for people who have lived or live here or have any experience of life here.

Would you recommend it? What is general life there like? What things do you do at the weekend. Where do you work? Are the people friendly? Are your kids happy if you have any?

I havnt lived there but work in the locale and everybody who I speak to seems to love it. Appears to have great community spirit and lots of community events such as hot air balloon day, reindeer event at Xmas. Gala day etc (I’m sure someone will be along to describe these properly).

All my colleagues kids seem more than happy at the schools in the area. If I could get my husband to leave the city, I’d move there in the morning.

Thanks.

I currently live about 25 minutes away. It’s close enough to lots of restaurants and pubs but we have two children and as they get older I want a nice area and good schools for them.

I wonder if I’d find it too remote.. my family all live within 5-10 minutes to us just now. They pop in a lot but I think perhaps if we lived in Strathaven we would get more planned longer visits rather than 30 minute visits unexpectedly.

Our current location is where I grew up however and it’s not a very good area. I’d like us all to start fresh somewhere and this seems far enough but not too far.

Ah sorry I assumed you were moving from further away! There’s a Strathaven Facebook page - might be worth posting or even looking on that. Best of luck!

It does seem to have a great community spirit and there are so many new houses it’s obviously very popular (I wonder if the schools are coping with them all though). What would put me off is the lack of public transport-no train station so if you want a day/evening out in Glasgow for example it’s just a ball ache getting there and back. But if you don’t often do that or are happy driving then that’s not really an issue.

My kids' great grandparents live there and it's lovely. I've always liked it and you're close enough to east kilbride and Hamilton that it doesn't feel remote, but I don't think the buses are that great so might not be so good when your kids want to get a bit more independent and go shopping etc by themselves.

But it is a really lovely, friendly place!

Lived in Strathaven for many years. My children grew up there and had a very happy childhood. Excellent schools, great community, lovely park. Loads of activities for kids - gymnastics, dance, drama, music. Nice quiet swimming pool and small sports centre. Some nice cafes.

Gala Day is a brilliant day out - my DCs were involved every year whether that was with their playgroup, school, rainbows, gym club whatever. Bonfire night in the park (run by the Round Table) is another highlight. Balloon festival is wonderful.

My only criticism is there isn't a lot for teens.

(Re Glasgow nights out - night bus to EK then a Kelvin Kab to Strathaven!)
