hi...its my first post...and yes i love mumsnet and trust you all out there.
So i live in pollok g53 area. my son is starting primary this August 2019 and i am so confused. i asked his nursery which is lyoncross and they said all schools here are great but i want a better insight. i do want him to go somewhere near so that he might attend a school with fellow kids from his nursery. currently got a place in crookston castle. is it a good school for a british pakistani child? he is an only child and i worry a lot. please help

I don't know Crookston Castle but most of the primaries in Glasgow will have at the very least a few Pakistani origin kids - and in many a majority.

I wouldn't worry too much about whether he has friends from nursery as they will make new friends at primary.

Ds went to his "catchment" primary, Glendale - where, when he went, 60% spoke English as an Additional Language, mostly Urdu speakers) yet only one girl from the nursery (also catchment, in Nithsdale Road - but without an obvious associated primary) went to Glendale and he didn't know her as she went in the afternoons and he went in the mornings) and quickly made friends.

He was a placing request to his secondary (Shawlands) and many of his friends he made there are of Pakistani origin. In fact, his friends at Aberdeen Uni have commented on all the Asian names on his Leavers hoodie Grin

Yes i suppose you are right. i just wonder if crookston castle is a good school or weather i should have gone with the other catchment option which was st marnock r c i think.

Do they both feed into good Secondary schools? Or is one of them linked to a better secondary?

Try not to worry too much. I worried too much about my ds when he started primary school. I didn't think he would cope well with school but he was absolutely fine.

I think Crookston Castle feeds in to Ross Hall and St Marnock's into St Paul's. Don't think there is much to choose between them - although I know more kids at Ross Hall (via the local rugby club).

I'm biased though Wink and think the best secondary school on the South Side is Shawlands Grin - and it's probably the most ethnically diverse.
