Moving to Scotland

Hi, I'm moving back to Scotland in the next few months. I'll be commuting to Newcastle two days a week so need somewhere on the East coast and close to the train line. I'm happy to drive - if it's not too far and need a decent broadband speed as I'll work from home. Can anyone help as to the best places to look for a house that fit the above criteria? Thank you

would you consider the far north of england? you could look at chirnside,it is an 11 minute drive to duns station and then a 1 hour 15 min train ride to newcastle.

Berwick? Edinburgh?

Laterthanyouthink · 26/02/2019 19:41

Dunbar?

Thank you for replying.

It must be Scotland - I've been away half my life and really feel the need to return even though I won't be near where I was born or near family.

Also, I'm hoping for a maximum drive time of an hour to Newcastle if possible.

I know someone who commutes from North Berwick by train. Dunbar is also an option. Not sure how long it takes though.

I did have a quick look at Berwick and Dunbar. I've been to Berwick and liked it but have never been to Dunbar. I've also spotted some properties in Coldstream - does anyone have any experience of living in any of the above?

Lots of beautiful (and many affordable) places in East Lothian. If you use the 'draw a search' on rightmove (found here www.rightmove.co.uk/draw-a-search.html) you can then drill down by price and needs/wants. Perhaps have a look at what is in your budget and then come back to get people's opinion of places. I personally like Dunbar, Drem, East Linton, Longniddry and other places. But it will depend on your transportation and other needs.

Sorry, some places I've listed don't have access to a train line (unless you were driving to a station or taking a lift). Dunbar to Newcastle on train takes about an hour to an hour and a quarter depending on time of use.

Dunbar is lovely.

Thanks everyone. Plans appear to have changed and it's not going to be a Scotland move. So pissed off but thanks for taking the time to reply
