Glen Etive Development Plans

This week seven of eight proposed hydro power schemes for Glen Etive have been approved by the Highland council. This will mean an unprecedented amount of construction within the glen for schemes that will unlikely provide the amount of energy the company has proposed due to low flows most of the year.
If anybody feels like supporting the protest against this you can find more information here:

I live by the shores of Glen Etive and I can't put into words how angry I am about this. Glen Etive is glorious and this will destroy it.

Delurking to say I have just written to my local councillors (different ward) to support a review by all HC councillors and to urge them to come up with a comprehensive energy vision for all of the Highlands; hydro and wind can be great, but needs to be done right -this scheme obviously isn't!

Good luck -it's a beautiful place (but goodness knows how you put up with the midges!)

Thanks you Inia

I put up with the midges by staying very close to dp, they leave me alone when he is within 5 metres of me Smile

Grin I suspect that's the tactic my DP applies with me!

Hi Igne, I live at the back of Ballachulish and am trying to get at least three of the schemes dropped (see this website I created with some colleagues saveglenetive.co.uk).

Which end of Etive do you live at out of interest?

Igneococcus · 18/03/2019 15:30

Hi MheallMhor,
I can see the Falls of Lora from my kitchen window Smile

I know where you are then! :-)

Did you get any consultation? We live closer than most in Glencoe (as the crow flies) but weren't included in the Glencoe and Glen Etive Community Council. i.e. We don't get a share of the community benefits should these schemes go ahead (the £34,000 a year that the developer has offered).

Igneococcus · 18/03/2019 16:24

No consultation but I might have missed it.
Did you see the letter from a member of the community council why she supports the hydro schemes in the Oban Times?
I'm always astonished how little discussion there is about any large development that affects the local population, like the several hundred houses that are being build in Dunbeg. There was a meeting with the residents about it but you never had the impression that it would make any difference to the outcome.

I've just seen the result MheallMhor

It's an utter disgrace.
