Edinburgh Christmas market and better alternatives

18 year old DD wants a day out in Edinburgh with her mum (awhhh) to go to the Christmas Market. However, according to the threads here it’s pretty duff.

Nevertheless she is determined I should take her and it will be amazing. So any good suggestions for what to do on a wet, cold, Friday in December, once she is fed up with the market ?

We will be travelling by train and we don’t know Edinburgh very well. Neither of us are keen shoppers.

Chocolate bar in Harvey nicks?

The giant Lanterns of China are on out at the Zoo

there's a silent disco on maybe, George Street?

I just like wandering about soaking up the atmosphere :)

Go ice skating at st Andrews square. Shop in princes street. Go to the castle a walk. Drink Bailey's hot chocolates, mulled wine and go for food somewhere. Go to George street when it's dark to see the lights.

I personally love the Xmas markets and Edinburgh.

I went to Edinburgh Christmas market about 10 days ago and it was far too busy; could barely move or get near any of the stalls for the crowds so I imagine it's probably just getting worse the closer it gets to Christmas!

Thanks again for your suggestions . I think we will pencil in ice skating and will book tickets for the Chinese lanterns at the zoo.

If it's this Friday, the schools break up at 12 so it may be heaving.

Amber Rose in Castle Street has a lovely atmosphere, good food and reasonable price wise.

The museum on the mound or the one on Chambers Street May be worth a visit too.

The lights at the dome on George street are lovely , although the queques to get in can be awful. There are lots of silent discos on with Christmas themes.
