Hi I’m due to move to Rosyth in Jan. I’m having trouble searching online for places to give birth. I’ll be 4 months pregnant when I move..

Thank you!

It would be the Victoria hospital in Kirkcaldy. Or you could risk St John's in Livingston or RIE & hope you don't get stuck in the bridge/bypass traffic in rush hour.

Thank you I will look at all those options.

Do you get to choose? I always thought you were just signed in with the closest hospital? No way would I risk the bridge while I was in labour!

Oh I wasn’t sure where the hospitals with a maternity unit etc even were. I’ve tried to search online but found it difficult.

It's only Kirkcaldy in Fife; there is no other maternity hospital, unless you want to go to Lothian or Tayside (Dundee).

You can choose (at least you could over 18 years ago when I had ds Wink).

I got my GP to book me in to the Queen Mum's rather than the Royal (where most of their patients went) because a) it was actually more convenient for me to get to both from home and work (for ante natal appointments) and b) my dad used to work at Yorkhill so still had former colleagues there.

Only "issue" it caused was the post natal midwife visit was from a different team to those who were used to the Queen Mum's and had slightly different protocols.

You can choose, the which website has information on what facilities are available at the different units.
For example some have a midwife led birthing unit as well as labour ward and some just have labour ward.

From Rosyth you will be expected to give birth in Victoria hospital Kirkcaldy. It is the only hospital with a maternity unit in Fife. It is a fairly new unit so I imagine the facilities will be good.

FairfaxAikman · 29/11/2018 09:02

As PP say Victoria is the only hospital for giving birth, but Queen Margaret in Dunfermline (closer) offers ante and post natal care.

I would stay this side of the river and go to the Vic. Fast easy road to get there, you certainly don’t want to be worrying about getting stuck in traffic going over the bridge to St Johns.

On the bright side I hear NHS Scotland has maternity waiting times down to 11 months
