Looking to leave Glasgow on a Friday late afternoon, return on the Sunday, via train.

Any recommendations? I know the weather is likely to be shite.

We do Edinburgh every other January, its cold but great as much quieter. You can get a proper look at stuff without being jostled etc. Just wrap up warm. The museum's and galleries are fantastic.

Or do you mean glasgow the whole wkend? In that case, there are lots of indoor things to do. The Gallery og Modern Art, Buchanan Galleries for shopping.

No, leaving from Glasgow.

Edinburgh is a good idea actually!

Troon - stay in one of the nice hotels like Lochgreen. Go to the harbour and watch the seals or the marina and watch the money yachts.

St Andrews - that corner of Fife rarely gets snow, lots of lovely accommodation and you'll get a good deal as it's not attractive to golfers. Train to Leuchars.

I vote Edinburgh too.

Dundee? The new V & A museum and the Discovery museum are good visits and there's plenty of new hotels and good restaurants.

Lidlfix · 28/10/2018 15:12

Another Dundee voter. One of the sunniest cities in the UK. V &A is great (might be a bit less hoaching by then) and a great selection of bars and restaurants which are cheaper than Glasgow and Edinburgh. Walk along the waterfront, get rosy cheeks add to rosy cheeks in welcoming hostelry and take you pick of food. Apex usually has deals and is in prime waterfront location and has a lovely spa for Sunday morning chilling.

Or Dunbar/North Berwick area if you don't feel like a city? Lovely beach walks and some impressive boutique chic b n bs.

Ooooh interesting, thank you!

Food is very important Grin We're not interested in fancy places but somewhere that's a little bit of a treat.

I think many/most Scots will want to visit the V&A at some point. I've been already and while there are issues with it, there is a gorgeous display of all things Scottish, including the rebuilt Rennie Mackintosh tearoom inside the museum (which smells divine). I would take the opportunity and have your weekend there, and I'm not even a Dundonian - I'm from Edinburgh!

My Dd has moved to Dundee and keeps asking why it rains so much in Edinburgh 😂.

Her favourite wee place to eat is italiangrill.net

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/10/2018 20:36

Just as well she didn't go to Glasgow groovee :o
