Hi! dd is going to nursery next year. We live in Newington and I am thinking about Newington Nursery. Have other mums heard of it? Any info will be appreciated. Any other recommendations? Thanks a lot!

It’s a nice nursery with good staff. It’s only 9-12.20 so you won’t be able to increase your hours. I think there are two qualified teachers working in the nursery. It’s a community nursery so you will have to help out in the nursery and also potentially take on a role such as secretary or shopping for snack food.

The room the kids are in needs to be packed away every day but other than that it’s like any other nursery. Parents are friendly and involved so it works well.

thanks so much! but ds is only one and I am the only carer at home (dh needs to work) can I bring ds along when it is my turn to help out in the nursery? and I know it is a partner nursery and is funded. But it seems that the hours are longer than the "funding time"? So do I still need to pay? sorry for so many questions!

If you have other kids they come with you. If your kids are sick or you can’t make your turn you can swap with someone on the rota.

You do need to make a financial contribution but It’s not much. I really can’t remember but I think it is around £67 a term so maybe £130 a year? You will be sent a bill twice a year. I think the council funds 3hrs but they run for 3hrs 20 mins so you are only paying for 20 minutes. I’m really not sure but it’s not much at all.

Both my children went here and really thrived with the experienced staff and stimulating activities. It has a great community feel and the staff know the children really well. It prepared both of mine so well for school.
You don’t pay any top up for extra hours. The slightly different operating hours are because the nursery starts a few days later in the summer than the council nurseries because the hall is used as a festival venue. The time lost is topped up by finishing later each day. You would only pay fees if you are using your pre-school funding allowance at another nursery.
