Where to live for St Aloysius Glasgow

Hi, we are considering sending our 3 DC to St Aloysius. From looking on the map, Hillhead seems to be the closest area. Unfortunately my 3 DC are noisy and wouldn't make good neighbours in a flat ( the only option for sale at the moment).

Where do other parents commute From?

We are moving anyway so may as well take the school into consideration. If we can't find a suitable house we will look at other schools.

Any advice welcome.

I know of children who travel in from Bearsden/Milngavie. It's such a city centre location that it's easy to get to by train from anywhere in the city.

(Assuming you're talking about secondary aged children).

Thanks Piper Ive seen a lot of nice houses out that way and it would suit our children better. We will have a mix of primary and secondary children when we move.

They currently spend 30 mins in the car on the way to school so used to a journey. 15 mins on the way back as traffic is better then Grin

Do you have kids at the school? I'm interested in any information.

No I don't - we're not Catholic and I don't believe in segregated education anyway.

Plus I also don't see the logic in paying for private when there are some excellent state schools in Glasgow and neighbouring council areas.

Ouch! To each their own.

What’s your budget? Number of bedrooms required? That will be a big factor in suggested areas, as there’s a massive amount of variation area-to-area in Glasgow. But agree that St Al’s is so central that you can get to it from pretty much anywhere.

Pupils go to St Al's from all over the city: North side and South side. Because Glasgow has a good suburban railway system (and a subway) and it's in the centre of town it's easily accessible.

Thanks, I'll call the thread a day now. I really appreciated the helpful posts.

St A also run a couple of school bus routes to East Ren and Lanarkshire. Details on their website.

pmac62 · 02/10/2018 18:56

Also don't discount Renfrewshire. To be honest as long as you are near either a train station you will be ok travelling to Sr Als

BakedBeans47 · 27/10/2018 17:58

Many years ago now but my husband used to commute to that school from Bearsden.

Seniorcitizen1 · 27/10/2018 19:59

If you moved to the catchment area for St Ninians in East Refrewshire you will get an education at least equal to St Als at no cost bar higher housing costs
