Hi there! I think Glasgow is a really nice city and is what I am looking for but my husband doesn't wanna move there because he read on Internet that Glasgow is a dangerous city and is not a nice place to rise a family!
What do you think about? As Glasgow is a really big city there are maybe a few area not properly good as every city in the world!
Do you suggest Glasgow for a family?
Thank you

You'll get plenty positive replies to this, I'm sure, from people who love living there. I was a student there nearly 30 years ago and I go back for weekends and high days whenever I can because I love it. It's buzzy, friendly, cultural, there's loads of green spaces and I've always felt quite safe there.

Depends where you choose to live as, with any town or city, there are nice areas and slightly rougher areas, but overall it's a safe and vibrant city, lots to do for adults and children - a lot of events are free - and, arguably also dependent on area, there are some really good schools.

I grew up there and visit often with my family. I'd move back in a flash if I could! There are lots of lovely areas and is as safe as any city

Glasgow is a great city. It has less nice areas just like anywhere else but it hasn’t been a “dangerous city” for many decades.

As others have said, depends on the area. Glasgow and surrounding towns are great for families, you are close to a lot of culture and plenty of things to do and the same time you can be in the countryside or seaside in an hour..

About 15 years ago there was a problem with gangs and knife crime. However, the authorities developed a program which dealt with it very successfully. According to 'the media' Some of the english areas are looking to implement the scottish strategy.

Glasgow has some of the most deprived areas in the uk, but presumably you won't choose to live in one of them. Avoid Calton, Govanhill, Possil and Milton.

I moved to a neighbouring suburb from a tiny place and surprised myself by really liking it.

Glasgow is a great city to live.

It's a great family friendly city. Not without the problems of any city but in general terms has lots of lovely areas to raise a family.

The city centre is small and very walkable. Lots of fantastic parks and museums (all of which are free) and has good access to the countryside.

Why not book a long weekend and visit some of the surrounding areas, pop into a few estate agents and get a feel for where you might like to live.

You should consider the weather too, it does rain quite a bit. Long light days on summer but gets dark early in the winter.

Definitely worth consideration if you're looking at other British cities.

Best of luck.

No city is all safe or all unsafe.

PolkerrisBeach · 02/09/2018 13:57

It's like any city. Good bits, bad bits and fighting in the city centre on a Saturday night.

Redglitter · 02/09/2018 13:59

Not sure what your husband has been reading but he's making a hell of a generalisation. Glasgow is the same as any city it has great parts & not so nice parts. It's no more dangerous than any other city either. Has he been there at all?

Murders do happen there, but they only murder their friends.
