Going to an engagement party tonight. I was really excited, dh and I have had a few shitty stressful months.
I bought a new dress (pictured below), feel pretty confident in it etc.

Turns out the party is in the Rangers social club.. they're not gonna let me in are they?!

You look lovely have a nice night ☺

PaddysMarket · 28/07/2018 19:53

Have a nice night, the dress would have looked better if they were yellow and white GrinFootball.

Just when you said a Masonic hall has green detectors I thought I would correct your misconception.

Catholics are accepted into Freemasonry. I know Catholic masons and even a Muslim.

A long long time ago Pope didn't approve of it as he felt it took away from church attendance. But who listens to the Pope.

The Orange order is a completely different organisation

Ledehe · 28/07/2018 20:53

*Sorry who listens to what the Pope says anymore...sex before marriage, use of contraception, homosexuality etc

MrsJayy · 28/07/2018 21:16

I was clearly joking Ledehe

To change the subject slightly (but still relevant to the green/blue thing).

A friend was reeling us this week about her nephew, when he was 5. He was desperate for a Rangers strip because that was what all his friends in P1 were getting for Christmas. His parents were adamant he was not - not because they were supporters (or rather not supporters) of either Old Firm team, but because they weren't prepared to shell out that sort of money (as well as the Old Firm issue).

Lots of argument on the subject as the wee boy really really wanted a Rangers strip. That was what all his friends were going to get. It wasn't fair Hmm His parents emphasised he was not going to get a Rangers strip, however much he tried to pressurise them.

He drew himself up to his full height and said.....

".....I don't see what the problem is, it's only green and white hoops"

Haha prettybird Grin!

Hope you had a great night OP, your dress was lovely. I'd have had the same stresses in your situation!

RatSoup · 30/07/2018 22:04

Ffs Catholics and Celtic supporters are Masons. Do you mean Orange Halls?

Ffs, masons absolutely disapprove of Catholics, and actually take pride in this as part of their reason of being. Therefore, many Catholics find Freemasonry offensive. You can do a quick Google and find info fairly easily.

Anyway OP, your dress looks great. Hope the night went well.

Ledehe · 03/08/2018 08:01

@RatSoup no thats the Orange Lodge not Freemasonry. FFS again.

I don't need to do a Google search because I KNOW CATHOLIC MASONS personally

Maybe if you do a Google search you will find out Freemasonry is not sectarian and open to all denominations of any religious belief.

The only reason I commented on this is I don't want people feeling if they are invited to a party/social night at a Masonic lodge they can't wear green and will be unwelcome. Your and others ignorance on this is outstanding.

I grew up near Larkhall, I’m Catholic (technically anyway) and a Celtic supporter (the two aren’t linked btw) and the Masons round here anyway wouldn’t make any effort to make me feel welcome.

So in actual fact your ignorance is outstanding. Many of the Masons I know are also Orangemen. Sectarianism is strong where I live. On both sides!

YeTalkShiteHen · 03/08/2018 08:06

OP I love your dress btw!

YeTalkShiteHen · 03/08/2018 08:06

What I mean is that no, the Freemasons may not as an organisation be anti catholic, they may well admit catholics, but that doesn’t mean that every Masonic group would welcome them.

You need to watch Trainspotting 2 now.

Ledehe · 03/08/2018 08:12

It's an Orange Hall in Trainspotting 2

YeTalkShiteHen · 03/08/2018 08:14

The two are heavily linked in the west of Scotland at least.

Both fairly insidious organisations tbh.

Ledehe · 03/08/2018 08:31

I am not religious, not a football supporter and think the very worst thing about being Scottish is the sectarianism. Everything else about being Scottish is great.

I despise anything that further fuels this hatred.

I do know a couple of Orangemen who are Masons and I think they are dicks (for being associated with that) and any talk like that in the Masonic lodge I know gets dealt with quickly and seriously.

My point is you can't tar a whole bunch of people because of the actions of a few. I have no doubt that previously it was more anti Catholic with the papal banning of masons (there were plenty of Catholic masons before this) and unfortunately the area in which we live.

But with time and mixed faith marriages and people not being as ignorant as they were I feel in general we are less sectarian as a society as we were 20 years ago.

Anyway I'm going to a party at a Masonic lodge tomorrow. And I'm going to wear green inspired by this thread

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 03/08/2018 12:07

think the very worst thing about being Scottish is the sectarianism.

You do realise Scotland is not the same as Glasgow?
