Moving to Linlithgow

Hello, looking for a wee bit of advice about moving to West Lothian. We currently live in England, but I'm hoping to move back home to Scotland next year. I have a 3 year old little boy. We have been looking at Linlithgow and wondered what people's experiences of it are for raising young children? Also is there plenty to do for us grown ups- into walking, singing, cycling, food and the odd bit of culture.
Was also wondering about primary schools in the area? Any tips or advice much appreciated !

My DB lives there and really likes it but his DD was already grown when they moved there and asides walking the dogs and food, their likes aren't really the same as yours :)

Personally I'm not a West Lothian fan but Linlithgow would probably be my pick of the area.

Is there a particular requirement to be near anywhere for work? if not, have you thought about Stirling? Great place to raise kids and covers pretty much all of your requirements I think. Also easy access to Glasgow or Edinburgh for bigger city stuff.

My husband is looking for jobs in Edinburgh, as that where most work is for him at the moment. I know Stirling well and it is lovely, but wanted to be a bit closer to Edinburgh.

If you have to move to West Lothian, then yes, make it Linlithgow. I’m in Livingston and can’t stand it here but my Linlithgow friends all really like their town. There always seems to be lots going on and the Lowport centre is great for sports activities/camps for when your child is older. It does, however, seem to be a case of everyone knows everyone else in Linlithgow which I suppose could be seen as a good thing or bad thing...

We lived in Linlithgow when we first came back from England. Really easy train commute to Glasgow as well as Edinburgh. Easy to get to the airport. Easy to escape up North or Down South via M74.

The schools are good for primary and secondary. Loads of community stuff all the time. Loads of good places to eat out. Lots of open space, sports facilities and play parks. Lots of surrounding countryside and even the beach if you count Blackness. Proximity to Falkirk and the Helix is another bonus. Lots of commuters so it is possible to keep yourself to yourself but there is a good community vibe too.

That said I missed City life and am much happier where I am now.

It’s a fab pla cr for families. Schools are good and there are plenty of different activities for children. Music groups, drama, dancing, gymnastics, swimming, rugby, football, martial arts and even fencing . For adults there’s plenty too and you’re close to Glasgow and Edinburgh for proper culture,

Transport links are good too and you can get to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Stirling easily. Lots of outdoor activities nearby too with the loch, Beecraigs and Muiravonside country parks.

It does all come at a price and house prices are relatively high.
