Could someone with knowledge of Glasgow please give me step by step idiot-proof directions of how to get from Queen Street station to Central Station (walking)
I have no sense of direction whatsoever!!

Come out the main entrance onto Queen Street itself. Walk down Queen Street to Argyle Street. Turn right. Keep walking until you come to Central station.

That’s not the fastest way, but it should make it pretty impossible to get lost!

Good luck Smile

Come out of the station onto George Street. With the station behind you, turn left and walk along George Street, then take the 4th on the left, which is Hope Street - Cebtral station is on Hope Street.

Or ask them, at Queen Street, to point you to the right bus stop for the free shuttle bus that will take you to Central.

  1. In queen street, follow directions for Buchanan Street subway station
  2. Take any exit from subway. All exits are onto Buchanan street
  3. Walk downhill down Buchanan street
  4. Turn right onto Gordon street (Just after TGI Fridays
  5. Follow Gordon Street across two junctions (Mitchell St and Union St)
  6. you won’t miss Central Station. It’ll be on your right. It’s massive.
PaddyF0dder · 23/03/2018 16:52

You could taxi it, but it’s a REALLY short journey. Or just use your smartphone either.

When you get off the train in Queen Street (not sure if you will be arriving high level or low level), turn right (if high level) or (if low level) get to street level and then turn right into the wee dead end street. Turn left down to the "main" road. Turn right and walk towards the church. Turn left into Buchanan Street (pedestrian precinct). Walk down Buchanan Street, crossing St Vincent Street (Apple store on the corner) and then turn right into Gordon Street (TGI Friday is on the corner; you'll have TM Lewin, Hobbs and the White Company on your right). Walk along Gordon Street - over two junctions (West Nile Street/Lane and Jamaica Street/Renfield Street). Central Station will then be on your left. Massive Victorian glass canopy!

Or do as SDTG suggests and get someone to point you towards the shuttle bus Grin

Just reading Paddy's description: I've misnamed Mitchell Street (called it West Nile Street) ConfusedBlush

italiancortado · 23/03/2018 18:56

Take phone out of pocket. Use map.

Or

Use the free bus.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/03/2018 20:42

Argh - I got my right and left mixed up - I should have said turn right along George Street. I am such a numpty. Blush

AHintOfStyle · 23/03/2018 22:52

Thanks everybody!

I'lll be posting back on tomorrow afternoon when I get lost regardless 😂

Only joking (kind of) I'm coming into low level which always confuses me but you've dealt with that and I had something about Buchanan St subway signs in my head already so I'm 99% sure it'll be OK!

Oh hold on! A shuttle bus you say??

And if my dyspraxia could deal with a map or smart phone directions then I'd be sorted but unfortunately it's not too easy for me 🙁

While I have your attention Glasgow people :). If I need to be at Glasgow Uni for 6pm what is the latest do you think i could arrive at Queen Street? I know how to get there (via underground) but have no clue what that will be like at peak time on a weekday. I'm sort of hoping you say half 5 will be fine because the options to arrive earlier are a bit of a pain in terms of logistics.

HeyYouGuyyyys · 24/03/2018 00:17

Quarter past 5 at Queen st would give you a bit more time. You're about 10-12 mins on the subway from Buchanan st - hillhead then a walk to the uni from there (depending on what building you're going to).

You won't have to wait long for the subway. They are every 5 mins at that time and they're busy but never full to bursting.

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/03/2018 01:05

Thanks . I was afraid you'd say that. That means we need to get the earlier train which means I have to take more time off work, get DS1 from school early and that leaves DS2 and my other passengers with no lift home so theyll need to do walk/train/long walk.... :(

prettybird · 24/03/2018 08:24

You might be able to do it in half an hour but it would be really tight - and you would be sweating like a pig when/if you got there.

Technically it is only 8 minutes between Buchanan Street and Hillhead (2 minutes between stops) but you need to add on walking between Queen Street and Buchanan Street (not far but at a very busy time of day), buying a ticket and then getting down to the platform. I'd allow at least 5 minutes for that - probably more. Then, worst case scenario, you've just missed a train, so that's another 5 minutes to add on.

That then leaves you less than 12 minutes to race from Hillhead up to the Uni - so it does depend on which Uni building you are going to.

italiancortado · 24/03/2018 09:43

It's a ten minute drive, so even allowing extra time for rush hour, a taxi would be the better option in your situation. Less faffing about, arrive at location with time to spare and less sweaty!

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/03/2018 10:29

Ahh didn't think about a taxi! Thanks.

And thank you too pb. I think it will be in the main building as it's a general thing and not subject specific. Just found out the actual day for students is the Tuesday at Glasgow but he won't go on his own and I'm already taking Wednesday off to take him to Strathclyde.
