Moving to Moray from England

Hi,

So we are going to be moving for my husband's work.

Originally it was going to be further south than we are currently (back to where we used to live), however, there is now a very good chance we are going to be moving to Scotland - the Moray area.

I know very little about the area, other than what I have read online.

We have some relatives in Scotland, but still a step from Moray, over in Ullapool. This means we will need to make new friends and networks.

We love the coast, and all things nature and art. I am hoping to go back to uni/college this year as a mature student. I can see there are a few options with this.

Any advice on good locations, schools etc. would be wonderful

Thank you

:)

It’s a beautiful part of the country. I only know if frommpassing through, so I can’t help you with your questions, but I’m sure you’ll love it there.

I used to live in Forres 20 years ago so can't really advise on schools. Elgin was a nice little town. If you want to be right on the coast hopeman, findhorn and Nairn are proper seaside villages. Hopeman tends to be a foggy at times. Have you ever heard of the findhorn foundation? All this is based on distant memories of course. It could all be totally different now

Great to hear it is beautiful. We enjoy the outdoors.

The coast will be out ideal location. I am always drawn to living by the water. We are used to foggy, we lived up a hill (mountain) before and it was always foggy or snowing. I haven't heard of the Findhorn Foundation - so will have a look now.

I'm in Moray and it's lovely 😊. If you're really keen to be by the coast and you're looking for primary schools, Hopeman and Cullen are good choices. There are loads of other villages with nice schools in between though. Findhorn is great but doesn't have its own school, the nearest is Kinloss but there would be school buses. It's very much a holiday village though so house prices are high. Good luck with your search!

Can't help with the specifics, but it is beautiful!

This is all great, thank you.

I’ll be sure to have a look at the places mentioned Smile

I live and teach in Moray. Feel free to message me with any specific questions. I wouldn't say it's the best place to live with children as mine couldn't wait to escape and would never come back!

Hello @Littlewhistle ! I’m picking up this post from years ago but Is love to ask your advice about schools in Forres? We’re moving to Findhorn and although Kinloss Primary is closest, Anderson’s would be the next nearest. I could Insuppose drive my son to Hopeman if they’d accept me. Grateful for your thoughts xx

Findhorn is our fave holiday destination. The weather is particularly mild there as well. It's a great area for kids.

RaraRachael · 30/06/2022 17:06

Hi @Milkwoodmedia I'm in a different area of Moray so not so sure about Forres schools atm. I don't think there is much difference in quality of schools across Moray. I'd think Kinloss school would have quite a transient population due to the army being based there. Hopeman was a nice school when I worked there many moons ago. There is an assumption around here that small village or coastal schools are better but that isn't always the case,
