Swimming pools in edinburgh

Thought we would take the dc swimming this week but our local pools are rubbish.

We're fairly close to edinburgh, is there any decent pools there with slides etc?

Dunbar, Time Capsule
In Lanarkshire, Perth Leisure pool, maybe Livingston.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/12/2017 23:02

Edinburgh isn't great for leisure type pools tbh I'm not sure if any of the pools have slides. Commonwealth pool used to but i think they were removed when it was refurbished years ago. My boys liked diving and swimming in the deep pool though so weren't that bothered. What ages are DC and how good swimmers are they?

Former connoisseur of swimming pools here :)

Time capsule is the one of the best along with Dundee. Perth is okay, Grangemouth used to have two good slides, Stirling has no slides but a nice bit for very young children. Livingstone is okay as far as I remember.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/12/2017 23:07

Just checked and grangemouth pool is closed until late January. There is the mariner centre in Falkirk, only one small slide I think but does have a beach type sloped entry some spray things and a wave machine. Alloa pool has a couple of slides but is quite small otherwise.

Inverness pool is pretty good but a bit of a treck.

A lot of the pools without slides run float sessions which might be worth looking for?

Toottootcar · 26/12/2017 23:08

None in Edinburgh, sadly (I don’t know about private ones) Dunbar and Burntisland have slides. The Commonwealth has a large lowish depth children’s pool and a diving one too.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 26/12/2017 23:14

Mariner in Falkirk has small slides, lots of small kids play stuff, & wave machine (but as Grangemouth which has great flumes is closed it's busier than usual)
Burntisland (Fife) has a great leisure pool no slides though
Coatbridge time capsule is probably your best bet... depends on kids ages really

Toottootcar · 26/12/2017 23:24

Waddle there’s a big flume you can see on the outside of the Burntisland pool, unless they’ve closed it of course - always worth phoning pools in advance as opening can be varied.

Woops! You are completely correct, my poor brain ConfusedGrin

Levenmouth pool in Leven, Fife, has flumes. It's a really nice leisure pool.

TheTasteOfInk · 27/12/2017 18:09

Sorry folks didn't see any replies when I checked earlier. Dc are 3(twins), 7 and 9 so also needs to be somewhere that isn't one adult to a child.

Was really hoping edinburgh would have a decent one as we don't drive yet so further than edinburghs really a bit too much.

I loved perth, dundee and time capsule as a kid. I thought they had closed dundee though? Or did they move it actually?

dotdot levenmouth and east sands were my local pools as a kid, not been in probably 15/20 years I reckon. We had though about visiting the dp's over new year so maybe could head there actually.

I don't even remember burntisland having a pool Blush I'm obviously overdue a visit 'home'

Edinburgh used to have the leisure pool in Leith (now shut down) and the Commie pool used to have slides. Most of the other pools such as Warrender etc are old type pools. The only exception is the one at the WHEC I think. It has a diving pool and if i remember right, a toadstool house thing for small children to slide down.

Dundee pool relocated. DSs preferred the old one but still enjoy the new one. I think that's still walkable from the train station as is Perth.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/12/2017 18:31

Are you in Fife OP or in the Lothians somewhere?

GeillisTheWitch · 27/12/2017 22:00

The Time Capsule is meant to be shit now, their tripadvisor reviews are seriously bad.

Dundee Olympia is brilliant though but gets very busy.

GetYourRocksOff · 27/12/2017 22:04

I know i mIght not help op but one day we went to the time capsuale and it was shut. In a panic I Googled and found Hamilton water palace. Cleaner and cheaper than the.time capsuale. It was great and we've been back loads since.

PrimalLass · 27/12/2017 22:08

Perth is probably the best, but I haven't been to the new Olympia yet.

thefourgp · 27/12/2017 22:20

The beacon in Burntisland has two flumes and a wave machine. My kids prefer the Olympia in Dundee because of the slow river.

AHintOfStyle · 27/12/2017 22:22

Which side of Edinburgh roughly are you?
Time Capsule is good but isn't Edinburgh - further west. Leven in fife is a good pool and Bubbles in Livingston has a couple of slides.

GeillisTheWitch · 27/12/2017 22:48

Is Perth better now since the refurbishment? I've been once but the lack of showers and state of the changing room floor didn't encourage a return visit. Not sure whose genius idea it was to put a swing park with a sand floor right outside the door.
