I know the Glasgow and surrounding areas very well. I would like some recommendations on other areas.

I'll not say how much we'd have to spend, as this might change quite a bit. Basically I daydream of..

A large village where I can walk to a good primary school and dd can walk to a good high school.

Somewhere that the residential areas aren't on a main road with speeding traffic.

Nice cafes, shops, playgroups and a good local pub.

Easy access to the city (either Glasgow or Edinburgh) by bus, train or car. Distance isn't an issue but the choice to go at anytime a must.

I will say that kilmacolm is out as way too pricey, and the likes of quarriers village is too quiet.

I don't know Stirling area, or Aberdeen well at all, but it could be an option. Anywhere might be an option, I just don't really know outside of Glasgow and surrounding areas.

Just looking for a blether really about where people think is nice Smile

Bridge of Allan or Dunblane?
Houston?
North Berwick?

BenLui · 14/09/2017 13:16

I agree with Prosecco Dunblane fulfills all your criteria.

Eaglesham does apart from the walk to high school.

Linlithgow might but it's not a village.

Bridge of Weir?
Houston?
Strathaven?
Lenzie?
Troon?
Ayr?

Another vote for Houston
Village cafe, playgroup, excellent schools and several very good pubs/restaurants.

Schools are within walking distance of anywhere in Houston. Shop wise just the basics - papershop, Coop, Chinese, Chippy, Post Office, Hairdresser & Beauty Salon. Great Doctors practise too.

There are regular buses to Glasgow & Braehead. Train station is just 10 mins away too

Nice and central for the coast too Largs/Ayrshire just half an hour away.

Id definitely recommend it

Balfron?

Dontletthebastardsgrindyoudown · 14/09/2017 13:52

Thank you for all of these. I should say that Houston is definitely on our list as is bride of weir. We love it.

Poppy thank you for suggesting Balfron. I'd never heard of it before and now having a really good nosey. Smile

Strathblane, Balfron or Killearn. All feed into Balfron High, which has a good reputation.

Drymen. Not sure what the secondary is, though (suspect it's also Balfron, but you'd need to check).

West Linton. A friend of mine lives there and it's gorgeous but wouldn't suit me because I like cities.

Dontletthebastardsgrindyoudown · 15/09/2017 18:30

Morning, I love city living too. I live in a very very busy city the now, but I daydream of easy parking spaces and fresh air. When the move out I'll move back to the city Smile

Balloch is lovely too, it's on the other side of the river Clyde, it's in the National Park and there is always something to do.
