Dull Stirling Uni/Bridge of Allan query...

pepperminttaste · 27/08/2017 11:39

I'm going to a conference at Stirling Uni in a few weeks. The conference starts at 9. My train gets me into Bridge of Allan at 8:30. Can I walk in that time without arriving all sweaty and unpleasant? Google suggests it's a 29min walk... I hate rushing but an even earlier train would be painful!

Yes, definitely!

pepperminttaste · 27/08/2017 12:37

Oh great! So Google is being generous? Should probably have expected that.

Thanks!

There is generally a really good bus service, very frequent, you may even be better jumping off at Stirling as more choice.

Looks like there is a 54D just after half past at the stop opposite the station:

I mean there is 54D just after half past at BofA station. If you walk further into Bridge of allan there is more choice - so you could walk along to the stop outside the Royal Hotel and if time was getting on, you could jump on virtually any bus from there.

cdtaylornats · 27/08/2017 15:24

It is a sizeable campus - 25 minutes will get you to the entrance.

Also if it is October you might have to deal with a headwind or rain.

Personally I would get off in Stirling, grab a taxi and use the time for coffee.

If you are near the MacRoberts Centre on the campus try Clive Ramsays restaurant - foods good and provided by a bistro/deli owner in the town.

MrsJayy · 27/08/2017 15:29

God no it will take you ages get a bus or a taxi im not sure where exactly BoA train station is if there is a bus stop out side. Alternatively get off at Stirling and jump on a unilink bus they come every microsecond the bus stop is just out side the station you are looking for a 54 (a or b) they go up to the uni

MrsJayy · 27/08/2017 15:30

I meant anybus with unilink on it or 54 (a or b)

MrsJayy · 27/08/2017 15:32

Ah the bus stop is just outside B oA station jump on it don't walk

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/08/2017 15:38

yup - the bus stop is exactly opposite the steps up from BofA station. I'd do that myself. The campus is big, it may take you 10-15 mins from the entrance to get to where you are going. If you are heading to innovation park it's at the far end.

MrsJayy · 27/08/2017 16:10

I know i wouldn'walk either the uni is huge and even walking from the gate down takes me 10ish minutes

Superjaggy · 27/08/2017 16:20

I second what cd said - grab a taxi, get a receipt and claim it back from your employer. It's stressful enough going to a new venue where you know you'll have to make polite chat with people you'll never see again, etc (or maybe that's just me!) so a bit of chill time before you start would be good. The facilities there are generally excellent though, I've been to a couple of conferences there :).

pepperminttaste · 27/08/2017 17:23

That's all so helpful! Really glad I posted (my OH) mocked me... Smile

Bus it is then!

Bus definitely
And I am a fast walker who likes walking.
It can take me 15 mins from parking my car on campus to get to a meeting somedays. It's a large campus, and it's situated on a hill, so even if you arrive at the entrance as fresh as a daisy - the hike up the hill will leave you slightly wilted.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/08/2017 17:40

Is it at the business centre place OP? That's at the top of the hill.

pepperminttaste · 27/08/2017 18:23

It's near the bottom I think. Iris Murdoch.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/08/2017 19:01

That's right round by Innovation Park at the Hillfoots entrance OP.

It'll be a good 10 minute walk from the Uni main entrance

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/08/2017 19:02

Through the Uni I mean.

pepperminttaste · 27/08/2017 19:41

Oh. I'm going to end up driving, aren't I. I really, really hate driving.

OP posts:
pepperminttaste · 27/08/2017 19:42

Ffs *aren't I?

OP posts:
MrsJayy · 27/08/2017 19:47

Get off at Stirling get a taxi takes 10ish minutes don't drive it isn't that complicated honestly ☺

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/08/2017 20:01

I agree with MrsJayy. It isn't complicated and a taxi will cost about £5-6 I think, or you could hire a bike from the station if you are that way inclined. It's not far.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/08/2017 20:02

If you are getting a taxi, don't get of in BofA as there isn't a rank or anything. The station is at the edge of BofA, the furthest edge from anywhere :)

pepperminttaste · 27/08/2017 20:33

Taxi and expenses sounds like a less stressful plan all round. Can you tell I'm massively anxious about going anywhere I don't know for a set time?!
