Hello,

We are planning a day trip to Edinburgh this weekend and was wondering if any of you could suggest places we could park in Edinburgh for the day.

Thank you in advance.

Get the train. Drive to uphall or similar park and ride stations and get the train.

Or I think there is parking near the airport and then can get the tram in.

NorthernLurker · 10/08/2017 21:18

I would park and ride. Where are you coming from? We used the newcraighall car park and station before Christmas last year.

cakelover75 · 10/08/2017 21:29

Thanks.
We're coming from Glasgow. We parked and got the tram last year but it took ages so I'd rather pay to park in a multi-storey seeing as we're only there for the day.

Go to Hermiston Park and ride.
If you get day or a family bus ticket you can hop off and on buses all day.

BirdyBedtime · 10/08/2017 21:35

Don't even try to get into the centre as it's a holy nightmare. As NL said if you're coming from the south/east Newcraighall is only 11 mins to Waverley or from West/North park at Hermiston Gait and take train/tram from there

BirdyBedtime · 10/08/2017 21:37

Seriously it may have felt like the tram took ages but driving will definitely take longer or the train only 10 mins

weebarra · 10/08/2017 21:44

Seriously - don't! The only ones I can think of are castle terrace and omni and they'll both be a nightmare to get to because of where they are.

helensburgh · 10/08/2017 21:45

I find parking in the centre easier.. if you get there early it's fine.
The omni centre one is easy to get to. Expensive but to be honest less hassle then park and ride

cakelover75 · 10/08/2017 21:50

It took almost an hour on the tram last year and then another hours drive, so doing the park and ride last year only made the travelling much worse Confused

It's Edinburgh in the festival. Everything takes ages

AgentProvocateur · 10/08/2017 21:54

Get the bus or train from Glasgow. That's what I'm doing. It's £10-ish return at the weekend and I'm sure kids go free too.

SisterhoodisPowerful · 10/08/2017 21:55

Driving to any hospital f the park and rides in the city centre will take an hour. A park and ride outside the city with s bus will take an hour. If you're coming from Glasgow, take the train. Seriously.

TheMasterNotMargarita · 10/08/2017 21:56

I would definitely not drive into the centre of town. The omni parking will be awful as they are currently demolishing St James Centre. Castle Terrace will bankrupt you.
I would drive to Morningside, you can park for free on some of the residential streets further out - Greenbank Drive? - and get a bus into town from there if you are very against the park and ride.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 10/08/2017 21:57

Train definitely. It's hoaching. Every year I forget how busy it gets, and how much longer it takes to get anywhere.

TheMasterNotMargarita · 10/08/2017 21:58

Or yes, agree with pp, get the train straight into Waverly. Painless and the kids will enjoy it as a novelty.

Linnet · 10/08/2017 21:59

When I drive to Edinburgh I park at the airport park and ride and then get the bus or tram in to town. With it being the festival that might be a lot busier than usual in which case I'd get the train.

TheMasterNotMargarita · 10/08/2017 21:59

Sorry I dont know why I said kids as you did t mention any Blush

RipMacWinkle · 10/08/2017 22:02

We went last week and parked beside the Meadows. Yes we paid to park and it wasn't cheap but we were with 5 children so train is just too painful when they're tired at the end of the day

WeAllHaveWings · 10/08/2017 22:14

I park outside my brothers house (Glasgow road) and get the bus directly into town,, takes 15 mins or so.

Not saying park at my brothers house, but there is never any parking issues around there, always spare spaces.

SpencerSweetPeas · 10/08/2017 22:19

Park in Marchmont/Sciennes. It won't be cheap but it's easy and very close to the Meadows and George Square. 15/20 mins to Pleasance and Princes Street.

There are usually at least some pay and display spaces.

SpencerSweetPeas · 10/08/2017 22:19

15/20 mins walking that is.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 10/08/2017 22:19

Take the train from Queen Street, or go to Hermiston Park and ride. DO NOT expect to park.
If you could park after crawling through traffic & tourists looking the wrong way it costs a fortune & you have the misery of knowing the return drive awaits you.

PoppyPopcorn · 10/08/2017 22:21

Best advice is not to!!

We always park at the tram park and ride at Ingliston and take the tram into town. Definitely the easy option.

PoppyPopcorn · 10/08/2017 22:22

Tram doesn't take an hour... from the park and ride into Princes St is 25 minutes tops.

museumum · 10/08/2017 22:24

Get the train in - park in Falkirk or Cory. Seriously.
