Shopping/food in Edinburgh

I have a day out in central Edinburgh with DD next week. We are out in the sticks and I haven't been properly into the city centre for years.
DD (10 soon) has requested a day of shopping and nice lunch somewhere as a bit of a birthday treat. I know there is a big Primark on Princes St. So was thinking to go there but any other suggestions?
Are there still lovely stores on George St or is it all restaurants and pubs now?
And any recommendations for food? I'd like to get away from our usual Pizza Express. She is fairly adventurous but neither of us are sushi fans 🚫🍣🍤.
Thank you!

The Hard Rock is in George St and popular with that age group. Depends what sort of food you're looking for really...

Jamie's Italian at the assembly rooms on george square would probably please a 10 yo. The food is perfectly fine (maybe a bit over priced for the "Jamie" factor but not too silly).

Some nice cafes up on Cockburn street. Southern Cross has seats up at the window where you can watch the world go by or at the other end of the scale I think there is a cafe in Harvey Nicks (might just be for puddings?)

As for shops, she might like the big H&M too? think there might still be some quirky shops up cockburn street and the on the south bridge but it's been a while.....

Ah yes Cockburn St is a good call had forgotten about there.
Thanks ☺

Cafe Andaluz on George Street is nice for Spanish tapas. Or if you want burgers, it's a bit of a walk, but I love the burgers at Bread Meats Bread on Lothian Road.

Mary's Milk Bar in the Grassmarket is great for a milkshake or ice cream if she likes that sort of thing! It's very cute.

I've always loved the pizza at Made in Italy in the Grassmarket too. I know it's not the most adventurous choice but it is tasty and not a chain

The City Cafe just off the Royal Mile is great fun too, and you do get a good burger and milkshake there!

I've heard good things about the Refinery on St Andrews Sq & Dishoom (Indian) in the same building. Or there's always Amarone if you're staying safe with Italian.

Also, Ocean Terminal might be worth considering; there's an H&M (not Primark), Debenhams, and plenty places to eat. It's easy to get a bus down from Princes St. The tram also goes out to the Gyle, in the opposite direction, but it's more chain stores e.g. M&S, Gap, etc.

If you're driving, there are loads of shops at Fort Kinnaird, with plenty choice for food too.

Ds used to love the food in Tigerlily, well priced for lunch as well. You can sit outside as well if it's nice weather. Cosmo is also a good shout with a kid, lots of variety.
