Does anyone know when the Leaders debate with Nicola Sturgeon and Tim Farron will be rescheduled to? Or is it too close to the election to broadcast it now?

It's tonight I think,

Belmo · 05/06/2017 14:08

Tonight at 9.

Tomorrowisanewday · 05/06/2017 14:11

Thank you. I checked first thing, but the BBC must not have had time to change their schedule.

Anyone watch it?
That's two audience debates in a row where she has been torn a new one. Tim Farron held his own.

trixymalixy · 05/06/2017 23:12

I didn't see it, but judging by the response of the nats on twitter it didn't go that well. Good!

Tomorrowisanewday · 06/06/2017 04:57

I'm coming round to Tim Farron. Miss Sturgeon got shouty very quickly, which i think is always a sign she's not getting her own way.

She is used to being interviewed by sychophantic journalists in Scotland who allow her to get away with everything. She has asked to be judged on education but they never press her on the snp's failings here - 10 years in power - but let her get away with "plans" for the future. When she is confronted by a non-Scot interviewer or voters she can't handle it. Vote Labour for the many not the few - a vote for snp is a vote for the Tories which I think is what she wants to try and strengthen her hand over indyref2, which will be a disaster for Scotland

Tomorrowisanewday · 06/06/2017 12:26

When she gave the response that the Pisa results were 2 years old, and they were working on improving on that, I was shouting at the tv - "Yes, they may be 2 years old, but you have been in power for 10 years, and as a devolved power, education is your responsibility!!!"
Another indyref will ruin us. I work in property and construction, and investors are holding off making commitments until they know what is happening with this.

I believe she also said that she would try for indyref3 even if indyref2 was a No. (disclaimer I haven't seen it, this is what I've gathered from twitter). Nice way to destroy Scotland's economy!!

She didn't say she 'would' try for indyref3 but sort of implied it, by what she didn't say.

Someone in the audience asked, if the Scots voted 'no' again in indyref2, would she give it a rest then, and she basically garbled an answer to the effect 'I don't think any politician has the right to dictate to the Scottish people ......' and then the audience all started laughing at her in derision, so she never really got to finish it.

But the implication was, by what she didn't say, that there would be no limit on the number of referendums there might be.

Tomorrowisanewday · 06/06/2017 13:34

It really will, trixy. Prior to Indyref 1, there were property deals being negotiated with caveats that if we voted for independence, the parties could walk away from the deals. The same will happen when she calls another referendum.

A bit like in Canada where they voted THREE times for their "neverendum" and Canada is still there.
After all the only reason for the SNP's existence is to gain independence, so clearly they will keep on trying until they get the right answer.

The problem is that you canNOT decide something like that using a referendum and certainly not without raising the bar. After all public opinion is very fickle. Just look at he various parties' fortunes... Who would have thought 15 years ago that the labour party would find itself in the doldrums and at the far left? And that the conservatives would be a real contender in Scotland and Wales? And that Scotland would be entirely in the SNP's hands? Who knows what will happen in 10-15 years' time. But certainly I wouldn't want something that will affect me, my children, my grandchildren and so on do be decided based on the volatility of public opinion.

Fontella · 06/06/2017 13:47

The problem is though politics is like a pendulum.

She/the SNP might be going out of favour at the moment, but it could all swing back the other way again in a few years' time.

It's in the Scottish parliament they need to be beaten. With the Greens voting with them on Indyref etc. anything they put on the table gets voted through. When it doesn't and the Greens vote with the opposition, she just ignores it anyway.

The opposition in the Scottish parliament needs to outnumber them by a significant number. So all their proposals, including 'indyref ad infinitum' can be stopped right there in the Scottish parliament.

But those elections aren't until 2021!!!

Arkadia · 06/06/2017 13:57

Fontanella, quite right.
I have to say, I would never vote for the SNP, but I would NEVER, EVER vote for their minions who I really despise. They deserve to end up like the Lib Dems (who, in my opinion did NOT deserve their fate).

Bejazzled · 06/06/2017 16:45

Fontella
She said "a party can't dictate to a country" .... and everyone laughed.
She actually looked dumbfounded at being derided.

completely ignores seniorcitizen1s Labour propaganda

NoLotteryWinYet · 06/06/2017 22:47

That says it all doesn't it, the flip of that is the SNP view that the SNP is the country.
