Thinking of moving back to Glasgow. What are the job and property markets like at the moment?

Have namechanged for this as details could be outing.

I am Scottish and DH is French. We have been living in France for 20 years and have 2 DC who have only ever lived in France. DH and I met in Glasgow and he lived there for 4 years. We moved to France for job/weather reasons.

I have been hankering after moving back to Glasgow for years and we are seriously thinking about it. DC are 10 and 13 so it feels like now or never as soon it will be too hard to uproot them due to exams.

I've spent hours looking at property and jobs and I would really appreciate opinions from those of you lucky enough to be in this great city. From what I can make out, property has got really expensive and there are jobs but lots of people going after them.

We want (like everyone!) to live somewhere with safe streets and good schools. Used to live in the West End but doubt we could afford it now (budget about 200,000 to 240,000 depending on value of current house and exchange rate.) Have connections with Anniesland, Scotstoun and Queens Park in the south.

Thanks anyone who has any advice / an opinion on my mad notion to move from the sunny French countryside to Glasgow....

Try Wilton St, (off Queen Margaret drive), Kersland st(Behind Byres Rd) and Radnor St (Finnieston). I have lived in these streets growing up and all were huge flats, first 2 were 3 beds and Radnor st was about a 5 bed.

I was in a lot of my childhood friends homes in Partick and don't remember many having 3 beds. Though DH grew up in Partick in a 4 bed tenement flat.

Just incase you were still looking for 3 bed tenement flats.

I now live in East Renfrewshire in Glasgow and it is a bit surburbia but only 15 mins on train to city centre, or 10 mins into Queens Park or Shawlands.

Hi all, not sure if im in the right place here...but here it goes. So weve just moved up to scotland. We have a 3 yr old, 2 yr old and a 5 month old. We havent decided if we want to live in scotland forever, but deff for the next two years! We would like to buy a property as investment though and rent out in two years time. We are struggling with deciding whether to buy in the east renfrew area, or any other area like hamilton. we arent really personally in need of good schools yet, we just need nurseries for the next 2 years.

We want to spend about £250,000

Thinking of renting onto someone else Should we invest in east renfrew (when houses are more pricey because of schools...but also smaller) ..or is buying in hamilton or other places good too in terms of renting on.

I dont paticularly want to down size on house space...but also want it to be able to rent on fast.

I think East Renfrewshire is a better bet than Hamilton. But the rental market is very strong in Shawlands & surrounding areas eg Strathbungo, Newlands.

You could definitely get a cheaper house in some parts of East Renfrewshire eg Stamperland, Busby than others.

@Cannaedecideforthelifeofme I came on to suggest Dennistoun! Get a lot for your money there and very cosmopolitan these days ... for the most part! Schools are an issue though 🙁
