Indy2: what should the question be?

Lots of us felt miffed that the Indy supporters got the 'positive' campaign slogan last time. Brexit wasn't yes/no, it was leave/remain.

I'm in favour of leave/remain this time around. Then I can be a remainer again :)

But seriously, they can't have 'yes' again, can they?

Not sure how Ruth Davidson or Kezia is gonna argue for that mind, but I would absolutely love to see them try.

Nyx that article shows a lack of understanding on many basic fronts. For example, if I remember correctly, in 2006 when Shell paid out record dividends return on investment was better from Marks and Spencer!

I do agree that the SNP have been terrible in their (mis)management of the oil industry crisis though but hardly surprising when they spent the first year of downturn denying there was a problem.

Nyx · 25/03/2017 08:51

I believe it's the treasury who set the tax rates for the industry, not the SNP.
From the BBC: "Tax receipts from offshore oil and gas slumped to just £35m in the last financial year, according to figures from HM Revenue and Customs.
The figure is the lowest recorded since the early days of North Sea production.
Corporation tax from offshore drilling raised £538m but that was offset by rebates on Petroleum Revenue Tax, totalling £503m.
The latest figure compares with £2bn of tax revenue in the 2014-15 financial year.
Four years ago, the Treasury raised £11bn from the two sources of tax on offshore production profits.
Much of last year's fall reflects lower profits from oil and gas, after the oil price slumped, as well as tax deductions for a high level of investment.
Tax rates were cut by Chancellor George Osbornee*during the most recent recorded year."

Just no words - yes, I agree that would be worth watching!

Justnowords sorry, phone on auto correct.

NoLotteryWinYet · 25/03/2017 09:59

there's no joined up thinking here Nyx you can tell me this industry is worth that, oil is being mismanaged but this doesn't add up to any kind of plan of how Scotland pays for the services it has out of tax revenues. Why would we vote yes for some nebulous idea hat this or that industry is strong? The economic arguments would have to get so much better to persuade people...

And the idea that members of the EU, especially small EU countries have a lot of independence is laughable - it's a political union that you give up sovereignty/'independence' to join. Much like a longer established, proven union that provides Scotland with much larger benefits....

I'm conscious that we're veering off the topic of the thread, sorry. Maybe we should start another thread to go over and over our arguments again!

NoLotteryWinYet · 25/03/2017 18:13

Or we can wait til close the time to resume!

UpAwfYerSeatWeeNippy · 27/03/2017 22:22
