...and most likely working at Royal infirmary, where would you suggest living with good schools, good links to city / bypass?

I absolutely love Porty, it's always on my ESPC fantasy housing check list, but that's my concern too about my quiet DC1.

If you could look at private schools instead of state then Loretto is just along the road in Musselburgh. It's a lovely school.

To poster in Canada, Stirling is lovely!

Loretto and Fettes are twice the price of the others, aren't they? Or is that just the price if boarding?

We're in Firrhill catchment. I think it's a good school. We can walk into morningside in 20min for shops cafes etc.

Both my DDs went to Portobello High and had a great time. DD2 was very quiet and shy when she went, and she'd had a hard time making friends at primary, but really came out of herself at Porty High and did well there. Several friends' DC have been or are still there, and I've never heard any serious concerns though like any schools there are ups and downs. The current school is very tiring especially for the S1s and 2s (they're up and down multiple staircases every hour carrying all their stuff with them) but hopefully the new school won't have those issues. Porty itself is a wonderful place to live, can't recommend it highly enough.
