Primary schools/family areas in Edinburgh?

Absurdly excited - am in with a good shot at a job in Edinburgh, but last lived there many moons ago when was pre- DC. If I was successful, once I had stopped dancing, what would I do about a primary school transfer for DS? He has just turned 6 and is currently in Year 1 in an English state school. Which are more family oriented areas to live in?. OK, OK I know I am getting a bit ahead of myself here - just so excited!!!!

Wee tip - Scottish people don't generally like hearing English things being referred to as UK ones, ie "UK stamp duty" - that would include the Scottish version too!

...if that sounded rude, it wasn't meant to be! Flowers

Getting a place to rent at the peak of the festival season in August won't be easy as the city is choc full of performers and tourists so take whatever you can get.

Question: when a a double upper is advertised with a garden, is that a private or a shared garden? I am wondering if it would be OK to put a trampoline up for DS or if this would need permission?

Depends - although I think quite a lot have their own garden (ie the original garden split in two). I wouldn't assume it though.

The private ones can look a bit "thinner" than you'd expect a garden to be due to being divided. Or you might get the side area included so making it bigger. I think most of them are split as its a selling point.

brainlikeasieve I grew up in Clermiston and lived there until around 3 years ago, I loved it. I went to craigmount high, great school. So it's Royal high, always liked there smart uniforms! Ha Clermiston is a bit strange in its set up for schools. it is literally just up a hill from the very affluent and popular corstorphine. There is a main road called 'drum brae drive' that runs up the middle of it. If you live on one side your catchment is Fox Covert Primary and then Craigmount High. If you live on the other side of that road your catchment is Clermiston Primary and the Royal High. I lived on the Clermiston/Royal high side. But went to Fox Covert/craigmount. That road also splits what I would call the good/bad side of 'Clerri' (as its called locally) all above schools mentioned are good I feel and would happily send my kids to all, my eldest did go to Clermiston for a bit before we moved out of city. For a rough guide, anything on the Clermiston/Royal high side of the split Id say is a better area than the fox covert/craigmount side. feel free to on me if you find anything and want a locals opinion! Smile

Sorry, lastly, try looking at 'clerwood' if looking at Clermiston, it's right next to fox covert school and it is a really lovely area. Certainly when I was at school if you lived in clerwood, we thought your mum and dad were well off! Sort of detached from the lower end which is say was not as good.

What dates is it you are still needing somewhere to stay? I might be able to help or point you in the right direction. What side of town are you after?

Tercear · 15/07/2016 20:02

Hello :)

I've got something for the 8-12th sorted, but I need something for the week after (possibly the week after that too). It just depends on how quickly I can secure a place to rent :)

Tercear · 15/07/2016 20:02

This is August I mean
