Holiday park recommendations

Looking for a good holiday park with an indoor pool for a week next summer. We will be driving up from London and have friends and family to visit in Glasgow.

Anyone been to Southerness? Or Drimsynie in Gairlochhead?

We liked the look of Cameron House on Loch Lomond. but its way too ££££ for us.

Our budget is around £900. Family of 4.

We went to Grannie's Heilan Hame with our DC a couple of times. It's a small Parkdean site with a pool and clubhouse. The local area is lovely with lots to do.

It's not quite a holiday park, but have a look at Crieff Hydro. Or else Auchrannie in Arran might fit the bill.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Auchrannie looks great. Never been to Arran before. How long is ferry journey and is it a car ferry?

Less than an hour on the ferry (can't remember whether it's Saltcoats or Ardrossan) & takes cars. Although Auchrannie used to have a minibus which picked up from the ferry at Brodick & took passengers who were staying at the hotel. There's a good bus service round the island.

If there's a big group of you, there are lovely self-catering lodges in the resort for sharing (so has Crieff hydro).

Grannies HH looks beautiful but quite a drive from Glasgow.

I like the look of Auchrannie a lot but it seems quite £££ especially when you add ferry crossings. It didn't look like there are static caravans just lodges which are always more pricey. I've looked at Turnberry and Crieff too, they look amazing but just that wee bit too expensive for us.

Has anyone been to Auchenlarie holiday park in Castle Douglas? or Southerness?

If you did go to Arran there's easily enough to do for a week, so you'd only need to go on the ferry twice IYSWIM.

I think there are caravan parks at Heads of Ayr & Pettycur in Fife - they might fit the bill?

Not been to Auchenlarie or Southerness but have a friend who's been to both and thought both were fantastic and both have stuff to do in the surrounding areas. It's quite a drive from Glasgow too - probably about 2.5 hours drive.

Auchenlarie or Southerness are looking good as they're both within our budget and nearer for us to get to from London. Which one is best Monster ? Did your friend say?

2.5hrs!! I guess that's the day trip out. It's funny i remember going to Annan for the day when I was a wee girl (grew up in Glasgow). My uncle was a mad driver right enough.

I think she preferred the location of southerness although it was the smaller caravan park next to the park dean. When I'd been talking about it for our holiday this year she didn't seem to have a preference really. I think southerness has slightly more for kids to do.

Thanks monster

We went to Southerness once. DS (aged about 5) loved it. I hated it tbh. We might just have been unlucky but it was very, very busy. There were lots of children running about unsupervised.

The plus points, from DS' perspective were: good soft play; close to the beach; great lighthouse at the bottom of the road.

I know friends who have stayed at Piperdam (near Dundee) and raved about it. I know Dundee is a bit of a jaunt from Glasgow but it's closer than Southerness.

How about Brighouse Bay at Kirkcudbright?

Personally I would choose Auchenlarie over Southerness

You can also do a day trip on the ferry to Belfast
