Edinburgh Festival

Anyone seen anything good? I'm a total comedy geek and try and see as much as possible, both adult and kids shows. This year I'm on maternity leave so have loads of spare time to see stuff but no a lot of cash so hanging out on the Royal Mile with the DCs and attempting to be a bit more picky about shows although I'm almost certain I'll crack and end up breaking out the credit card . Had saved up through the year so have tickets for Adam Hills, Trevor Noah, Alex Horne, David O'Doherty, Bridget Christie and Katherine Ryan. Have seen Stewart Lee and Jason Byrne, Brendon Burns already.
Made the most of the 2 for 1 days and preview shows with the kids. Loved The Cat in The Hat, The Scarecrows Wedding and Morgan & West's kid show.

Any recommendations or general chat for me?

I saw The Travelling Sisters at Cowgateshed (something like that today), it was free & i found it stupidly funny. Only 45 mins long. DS (11) loved it too

Have a look to see what the BBC have on at Potterrow. All free but you need to book in advance. Last year we saw Just a minute which was excellent.

I'm so jealous you got to see Just A Minute pinkje. I apply for tickets every year via the bbc website and never get them. Do potter row have extra secret tickets I'm not aware of.

north DS is only 4, do you think it would be too old for him?

Hmm, possibly Rum - it was visually funny but a bit off the wall!

Yesterday I saw 'Feminasty' with Megan Ford. She is hilarious. Utterly brilliant.

Dunno about comedy but was at the Tattoo last night.
Must see show is the forensic mind reader Colin Cloud, if he's not sold out. Mind blowing!

Thanks lily, that's the second recommendation I've had for her show so will scratch out a child free day whilst DH is on annual leave to check it out.

Ooh just had a look at Colin Cloud on the fringe app. Sounds great. Another one on the list.

I know him and he really can tell you stuff about yourself. It messes with your head!! He is also lovely and very funny. Really recommend it. You won't believe what he can do

So far I've seen

Jason Byrne, Andrew Maxwell, Nina Conti, Pete Firman (magician/good line in banter) and David O'Doherty. All excellent as usual. That's my 3 nights at the fringe done for the year I think as lack of babysitters/start of term/lack of funds means that's is until the fireworks

I saw Jason Byrne on Monday tillie. 15 years in a row. The intro video of all his flyers made me feel old.

Lots of my favourites aren't here this year so I'm currently sitting watching Frisky & Mannish on YouTube.

I will probably only get to see kid shows, weep, no babysitter.
So far have seen, Carnival of the animals at Stockbridge church. Pretty good, nicely interactive, kept my pre schooler amused.
Eejits and hissy fits at the storytelling centre, didn't rate. Definitely not interactive, kids just sitting on the floor listening. Not my idea of interactive story telling.
Rum do you think cat in the hat would be good for a 4 year old? Who has, shall we say a limited attention span? So needs to grab her attention and keep it?

It's worth popping past the BBC tent at potters row to ask if they have stand by tickets available - and if you can't get in they have headphones to listen and watch the live feed screen :)

I really enjoyed Larry Dean at the Pleasance & Michael Che at the Stand :)

irishe yes Cat in The Hat has been one of my favourite kids shows ever and I've seen a lot! Cast run around the audience, bubbles machines spewing out bubbles and giant balloons being thrown out into the crowd by thing 1 & 2. DS is 4 and sat transfixed the whole time. If you do go sit in the aisle immediately as you go in where the walk way is. That's where the cast run around and your right under a bubble machine (and you have loads of leg room).

Saw Micheal Che last year sooper and really liked him. Don't know Larry Dean, will have a look.

I saw the Cheshire Cats at Saughtonhall Church this week. It was fantastic, only £7 per ticket and they were set up like a cafe and served tea and coffee. It was a great experience and a really funny show.

Noise next door are brilliant and they have a kids version earlier in the day too. Also Jason Byrne and Daniel Sloss (not if sensitive/offended)

They serve me coffee whilst entertaining g my children groove? Sold!

I'm going to the adult show of noise next door, might check out the kids show. Someone flyering said if you can sit in the front row you get water pistols?

Craig Hill is absolutely brilliant, but not really child-friendly.

I saw the 'Marvellous Imaginary Menagerie' today at the Pleasance with my two children and god daughter, 4, 7 and 9. They were captivated! I've never seen them sit so still.
Plenty of jokes for adults too, and some beautiful puppets.

Def go for front row of Noise next door - very interactive

I've just got back from my first Edinburgh festival - so much fun! We ended up going in days when there were loads of 2 for 1 deals completely by accident :) can anyone tell me, are the 2 for 1 days every Monday/Tuesday or does it always fall at the same time? We're thinking about going again next year already!

There are usually two 2 for 1 days at the very start and a couple of days of preview shows that are half price. What did you see sooper ?
