So really you need somewhere with
-good nursery/primary schools

  • baby /child classes etc.
-gym
  • 3beds & a garden
  • £900-1300 a month
  • 1hour cycle commute for your spouse to Clydebank?
Barbie1 · 15/07/2015 23:34

Basically yes! Grin

Helensburgh is actually quite far out. Its also more of a sleepy town, perfect to retire to!

Bearsden would suit you I think.

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/07/2015 23:33

I live here, it is fine if it's what you are looking for.
Dd is at the state school, she is doing well there and they are good with their pastoral care for her.
There is an independent school if it's what you want.
Primary schools are great to rubbish, rubbish easily avoided.
Facilities here are great for a small town, we have an independent cinema, two butcher's, a fishmonger, great deli, Chinese owned shop with lots of unusual ingredients.
Trains are every half an hour to Glasgow/Edinburgh.

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/07/2015 23:35

And Waitrose obviously Grin

Appin · 21/07/2015 23:42

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about the cinema. And the new waitrose is great. Helensburgh is fine for getting to Clydebank on the train, but not sure about cycling?

Ubik1 · 22/07/2015 21:40

Or if you are city people, Glasgow's West End is worth considering

Ubik1 · 22/07/2015 21:41

(There is a waitrose)

NiceBitOfCheese · 22/07/2015 23:16

There's a Waitrose in Milngavie now, if that's important. You can cycle to Clydebank from Milngavie, on road. Or take a train to Westerton and change there for Singer (north end of Clydebank).

DillieDoily · 23/07/2015 01:05

Glasgow West End, Scotstoun, Jordanhill and Bearsden are all an easy cycle to Clydebank and plenty of baby classes, shops, decent housing, schools etc

TeacupDrama · 25/07/2015 16:42

it is 45 mins on train from helensburgh to glasgow queen street, it would be less than 30 mins to clydebank. ( you could drive to cyldebank in 30 mins might be longer at 9am)

I don't think cycling from helensburgh to clydebank daily is feasible

lomond school is private and goes from 3-18 it is in central helensburgh

hermitage primary and rhu are generally thought to be better than the others but the others are not bad schools, the high school /academy is fine certainly in top 25% in Scotland but not the top 10%

TeacupDrama · 25/07/2015 16:43

also helensburgh pproperty is only 2/3rds of price of bearsden
4 bed victorian terrace or more modern detached around 250-300K
