I’ve heard they will visit the home after the 3rd day for safe guarding if you call up everyday that they are ill? Is this correct

Yes most schools will do this.

Yes. Because parents lie

They will also ring and see if they get the ‘abroad tone’.
please don’t make your kid lie about being on holiday. Just own it and pay the fine, it’s still a cheaper holiday.

lebopbop · 04/10/2025 18:52

Just let them know you’re on holiday.
We just informed the school, we were told there may be a fine but we never got one. It seems like their policy is children with over 95% attendance don’t get fined for a week long holiday.
I would have happily paid a fine anyway as we saved 1200 pound on the trip.

Elmo230885 · 04/10/2025 18:52

Are you asking because you plan on lying to your child's school about illness whilst actually being on holiday?

Just follow the process and take the fine.

GameWheelsAlarm · 04/10/2025 18:59

Teaching your child to lie is much more damaging than them missing a week of school. You are choosing the cheapness of a termtime holiday, but one factor in the holiday cost is the fine. Pay it and enjoy your holiday.

keekee123 · 04/10/2025 19:45

Guys your all too serious don’t see why you should have to pay a fine anyway but I won’t get into that weve not done it before. Just wondering about this new rules as heard they are clamping down

From my experience it depends on what they think about you. My DD was off ill for a couple weeks and they told me not to worry about calling every day after the first couple. No home check ups.

By contrast, other parents whose kids were off at the same time posted that they had been checked up on.

I wouldn't take my kid out for a holiday though. Can't afford the extra annual leave for one thing.

It was 14 years ago and my 14 year old daughter went to bed and slept 23 hours a day for 3 weeks. I stayed in touch with school and after a week I took her to the GP who declared it a virus.
I asked for a sick note from the GP but was told there wasn’t such a thing.
in week 2 I asked school what would happen and they were totally chilled about it.
After 3 weeks the GP did a blood test and it turned out that her thyroid was under active. It was some weeks and severally strategies before we got her back to school but there were no repercussions from anyone.
