How hot is too hot?

Planning a summer holiday with our 6 month old baby boy. Thinking about somewhere in the Med or the Canaries. But a bit worried about the temperatures as occasionally it can get to 35 deg + in the summer. Is this too hot for a little one? Or fine if we take precautions? And if so, what precautions would you take?

You might find it hard to relax worrying about them at that temperature. Why not go somewhere cooler? Sunny but not 35C plus.

Yes far too hot, you won’t be able to be outside at all which renders going away pointless. We are now avoiding much of Europe for summer hols as can’t risk crazy heat ruining it.

Thanks, any suggestions as to where during the school holidays (My husband is a teacher so we are limited to this period).

Not sure I can handle staying in the UK for another cold and rainy summer.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will come along in a minute. We tend to go for heat now our kids are older. What kind of things do you like doing? Your baby is very portable at that age. Italian Lakes/Alps? Italy is lovely with kids as they adore them! We had 40C in August with 3 little kids in Croatia - not fun. I was a worrying mum and I remember not being get relaxed in south of France in a heatwave with a 5 month old. You may be less stressy than me though! Having a lying around the pool holiday isn’t great with a small baby , from my experience.

It depends on how you approach it.
Babies are born in countries that are warmer than 35C. BUT, they are acclimatized to it, and stay in cool places in the middle of the day.

How about Denmark? The school holidays there end mid August so you could go the last 2 weeks in August, when it is cheaper. You could get a holiday cottage near the beach. I went when DS1 was 2 and it worked out well, weather was fine but not too hot. Cottage was north of Copenhagen on the coast, but Jutland is also supposed to be lovely.

Nice idea, but doesn't it rain as much as the UK?

It didn't much when we were there, but you never know. After holidaying in all sorts of locations in the UK and abroad over the years in the summer holidays, I've come to the conclusion that it's either going to be too hot, or there's a risk of rain. With a baby I would risk the rain rather than the heat.

Northern / Mid France near the coast?

We're going down to Biarritz looking for heat but hoping the Atlantic breeze will keep it more manageable
