Does anyone have any experience of companies doing overseas volunteering for teens? My ds is 16 and thinking of doing a conservation project

I think they’re generally considered to be u ethical vanity projects.

I don't know much about conservation projects, but if your DS is in the Scouts he could look at volunteering at Scout camps across Europe.

I had a very happy summer working on a camp in Sweden (20+ years ago) and highly recommend it. I don't know if they still do it, but back then the Scouts produced a directory with all the volunteering options through Europe in it.

Agree. It is a glorified form of tourism. Each group painting the same wall and so on, then treking or going on safari. Workaway might be a better option, if possibly too young,

You pay a lot of money for very little.

Don't know if they still have projects abroad, but BTCV always did this sort of thing. Very much not a case of going to a developing country and taking jobs/ poverty tourism. From my recollection they had projects in the UK, Europe and US and would support people doing environmental work in those countries

Depends if they have specific skills, eg a friends son went to help build a ranger station but he's a chippy apprentice. My dd was offered a position in a school via an acquaintance but teaching music, which she's qualified to do (ish)

Thanks. I wasn’t sure if any of the projects were worthwhile but it sounds not!
