Activities for teens in the summer holidays..

Just trying to plan the next 3 weeks for my teenage DTs (B/G aged 13).. Fortunately we've just been on an action packed holiday but the next 3 weeks are literally empty for them apart from the odd dentist appointment!
Both DH & I work full time - 2 days in the office, rest at home so we can drop them places/pick them up etc, but can't travel too far during the day.
I'm trying to prevent them from sitting infront of screens all day so I'm going to suggest that they book in a few dates for friends to come here to hang out, unfortunately none of their friends live close enough to just pop round.
What do your teens do in the summer holidays?

Mine goes out with his friends mostly. Football or cycling, sometimes to the local entertainment place where they can play crazy golf/bowling etc. He's also gone off to the beach on the train with his pals a couple of times. But it's entirely up to him, I'm usually working. Don't have a problem if he just wants to chill at home/game either. It's his holidays.
His friends are all local which helps and we have very good public transport here. I am not a taxi!

How old are they? Freedom and encouraging them to seek opportunities is good.

Mine from secondary school onwards were at friends houses or taking the train or bus into town with friends, going to skate parks etc.
From 13 I also got them to take bigger (Scotland to Midlands) train journeys to family - they would go to grandparents for a couple of days and return.
They are really into things like cycling and hillwalking, so made use of local rides with friends up our local hills and made use of the free buses for young people up here and had bigger days out - by 15 they were even staying the mountains overnight with a friend or two.

Go out with friends
Go to friends houses/have friends come here
Go on bike rides
Go to the city centre and mooch round the shops
Hang out in parks (this one mostly)

If I'm off work and they are at a loose end we might do a small trip out somewhere together. But mostly they organise their own social schedule :)

I think if you live remotely, you do have to put in more legwork to make things happen and be willing to offer lifts etc (unless good public transport)
