Paying national insurance?

I've recently become a SAHM. On an old thread I was looking at, being a SAHP was mentioned and a couple of posters noted how it's important to keep paying NI contributions. I thought (and Google also suggests) that if you claim Child Benefit, you get NI "credits" though? Is that not the case, and if not, how do I go about paying my NI contributions?

Yes claiming child benefits keeps your government pension going.

Child benefit will cover you for NI if you’re claiming for a child under 12 and the claim is in your name. If your partner earns over the threshold for child benefit you can still claim the NI credits only.

You get NI credits until your child is 12, as long as you claim child benefit (or even if you don't, but you need to register for it).
I would like to know how you can pay it after 12 though.

I wondered this, should I be paying N.I? I haven't been sent anything about this. Following with interest!

Read above, question answered.
Unless your child Is over 12 then no idea

I thought it was 16 not 12?
In fact, that's what I was told when I called them about it.
Have I been misinformed?
My kids are still tiny, so not an immediate worry by any means, but I would like to know!

When I did a self assessment tax return j was always under the earning threshold to pay NI, but they would always ask me if I wanted to anyway. Perhaps that's the way to do it when your kids are older?
